Dear Ann Landers my husband and i recently went to great expense to move Pur child to another school District which we had heard provided better opportunities for learning. I am beginning to wonder if there is such a place. Our child is not challenged. The teachers keep emphasizing fun and encourage the use of calculators for simple math so it won t be too i recently asked if there would be a spelling Bee and was told such activities were discouraged because they weren t fair to the children who weren t Good spellers. I was also told that spelling bees Only teach kids How to memorize words when i asked if sports were going to be eliminated because our child in t Good at any of them the school administrators did t think it was funny. This dumping Down of our schools is what is wrong with education today. Our child is dyslexic and will never Star in a spelling Bee but she has other talents. We Don t expect the school to eliminate such events be cause they Are difficult for her. Good grief.
