Army Europe statement said. _ officers selected for the 1995 George and Carol Olmstead scholarship pro Gram will attend the defense language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey calif., for six to 12 months depending upon the language of their Host nation. Upon graduation from the Institute the officers will go to their Host nations where they will receive More language training and learn about the country culture for about three or four months. They will then attend one of their Host nation s universities for two years. Scholars will be Able to choose the subjects they study at. The universities but it is not intended As a degree producing program. Officers along with their families Wil 1 live in the local Community. There Are no requirements that families speak the local language however they will be Liv ing in a country where English is not the primary language. " while the program provides for families in the Host nation single officers also May apply according to Michael Belder Mann a . Army Europe spokesman. Normally if the army funds an advanced degree program the officer must serve in a three year tour in a position that requires an advanced degree said Keldermann. This program carries no such  to be eligible captains must have be tween three and 11 years of commissioned service by april 1, 1995 be Quali fied in their Branch have a minimum defense language aptitude Battery score of 89 have a minimum graduate record examination of 1150 and have a mini mum Grade Point average of 3.50. The seven Candi dates will then be presented to the Olmstead foundation for final selection next april 15r.
