Military personnel must meet the special duty requirements before they receive their assignment. Most of these personnel Are volunteers from other career Fields. This operation Smission is conducted in a controlled area. Since the operation is severely under manned they recruit volunteers from everywhere they can and these volunteers Are normally needed to meet Mission requirements on a daily have you guessed what operation i have been talking about the Post of fice. / \ since the postal operation is so important Why would the Powers that be put so much emphasis on allowing amateurs into a controlled area to Complete miss Sion requirements if the Post office is so important and it is then the Powers that be need to Manthe Post office to the level of service they and one of the reasons is the relatively crime free environment for raising a fam ily. What troubles me is the apparent Spectator attitude of Many europeans during medical emergencies to wit recently . Soldiers rendered the Only first Aid at a terrible Accident scene on a-67 North of Mannheim near Lorsch. Some months ago a crowd just stood and watched a fellow citizen collapse in full cardiac arrest in Heidelberg and he would surely be dead had two . Sol Diers not passed by stopped and Ren dered car. What happened to the Good Samaritan jaw ,. V staff sgt. John Christman Mainz Germany. I m not sure if they realize that the reason Many Post offices seem to have poor service is because they Are under manned. But it is a problem that the themselves created. This postmaster will work in a Strong Volunteer program Butone must realize that they Are not professionals and cannot be held to As strict of standards As actual military postal clerks. Staff sgt. Gary r. Goodman Semb Achab Germany watching a tragedy. I was heartbroken when i read about the tragedy at , France. How could those people just stand by an watch a child and her Mother drown the child was rescued by an emergency medical team but her Mother was t so v i be lived Here in Europe Many years a Bear hug to donors the Stuttgart Community recently launched a bears on patrol project to put Teddy bears in All military policy vehicles. A i would like to thank All the members of the Community who went into the Mai Exchange purchased a Bear and then donated it to this project. There will now be a new Bear Friend available to Cal children involved in any situation requiring an my response. I want to especially thank the 1st Pia Toon of the 554th my co who initially voiced the idea for this project and the Provost marshal maj. David Krause. I also thank the Stuttgart area office Sand civilians wives club for the Gener Ous donation of initial funding and Roge Chalupa manager of the Stuttgart main Exchange for All that he and his Safe staff did on the bears behalf. A located a source for rapid delivery of bears for Purchase in the Exchange and set up a delightful display in the Entrance to encourage customers to make Bear Pur chases. " " without his endorsement and assist Ance this project would have never got ten off the ground Teri Maude Vaihinger Germany Check this out clearly the welfare of the people was not considered when the motor vehicle registration office in Heidelberg Ger Many instituted its policy of not accepting Cash. If one is not in the habit of carrying Achec Kook then one must obtain a Money order or cashier s Check to Regis Ter a firearm or motor vehicle. The explanation is that there is a theft even if that is the Case it is an internal problem and the Patron should not be inconvenienced As a result. Can you imagine any business in the United states or Germany not accepting Cash the germans especially would be flabbergasted at having to write a Check for such very Small sums. Is there no theft in other businesses i the commissary or Post Exchange experience this theft problem will we be Force to write checks for the smallest of Pur chases a an Independent company would no contemplate such an arrogant and inconsiderate attitude. Common sense dictates that this Asi nine policy be rescinded. Paul g. Commentary air i choking on red tape by Scripps Howard news service the Federal government is stepping up its response to a problem you May not have known we All had poor in door air Quality. One Agency the occupational safety and health administration has issued 71 pages of proposed regulations to keep the air in office build Ings pure. And several members of con Gress Are sponsoring Bills that would draw the environmental Protection Agency into the act this flurry of concern of course Only supplements state level legislation on indoor air Quality issues ranging from radon to noxious doors emitted by carpet adhesive to electromagnetic radiation. Employers and building managers Are hard pressed to keep up with their Ever improving Legal obligations. One group that wants to slow Down this juggernaut is an association of environmental experts and concerned Compa Nies that Calls itself the total indoor environmental Quality coalition or tie it sensibly decries Duplica Tive regulation and Calls for science based safety Stan Dards and feasible affordable measures of compliance thus tie and others Point out that Osha s proposed regulations would make employers responsible for air Quality in offices. The trouble is 80 percent of air Quality problems Are traced to the de sign or maintenance of heating air conditioning and ventilation systems. These lie outside the control of 90 percent of office employers who rent space instead of owning their own buildings. A useful contribution Osha could make would be to publicize the need for employers to secure air Quality commit ments in their leases. The Agency could even propose Standard lease language and educate office owners and maintenance companies As to their responsibilities. Also balks at the at poor psychology behind the proposed requirements. If employers really had to notify workers 24 hours before the use of any potentially hazardous chemical this might mean incessant and therefore meaningless warnings about cleaning solvents floor waxes paints and other routine maintenance materials. Equally to Brief employees on the symptoms of building re lated illness a vague All encompassing term would Only invite hypochondria. Every cold every allergic sneeze could plausibly be blamed on something in the air. Osha s draft rules Are the subject of continuing hearings later this month they then will be revised and published for further comment. Now is the time for employers who Hope to live under More or less reasonable regulations to make their voices heard. Anco Thor i i a wok. About 12 Aux neither unin5ure& Oft up a in5urbp.
