A Lack of letters in recent papers you be stated you encourage your readers to write to you and express our viewpoints and opinions. We used to do that often but we Don t do that anymore. I can probably Tell you Why you Don t get As Many letters As you did in years past 1. When we wrote to you concerning a problem we did it because you were usually the last resort and would do a Little investigating outside of our chains and come up with a reply and usually some action from the source of our problem. You Don t do that anymore. 2. When we wrote to you concerning something we Felt strongly about As Long As it was printable you printed it in its entirety editing for clarity without cutting it Down to allow for space. You Don t do that anymore. 3.1 remember when you encouraged us to Send our amateurish poetry to you and you printed it once a week and it was a great feature of the paper. But you guessed it you Don t do that anymore. 4. Some of the people that i correspond with to this Day came from the pen pal column that used to appear but. Anymore. Don t get me wrong. The stars and stripes is a great newspaper and i prefer it to any paper in the states. It s compact and carries a lot of news without All of the advertising that sometimes makes it hard to find the news. But it is a people paper and we Are the people. Give a Little bit of it Back to us and perhaps we will write to you and express to you our opinions and concerns and Points of View. Milton s. Enforcement justified in response to the letter lighten up maps sept. 28i would like to set the Reader straight. Apparently he has forgotten about an incident Back in March involving a High Speed Chase that resulted in a shootout. Well i never will because i was one of the maps who was there that night. I will always remember treating a gunshot wound of an innocent victim because his buddy started out speeding and ended up trying to run Down a Cid criminal investigation come agent and break through a police Roadblock. He has obviously never seen firsthand what Speed can do to people. I have responded to enough traffic accidents rang ing from children getting hit to people going through windshields to know that Speed and carelessness Are the major cause. It makes me feel Good to know that this Reader is so paranoid about Speed while driving on Rose Barracks. That Way i know that my Little girl or anyone else s child can walk in a crosswalk and not worry about get Ting hit by a speeder. I wish people like this would learn where to vent their frustrations about traffic Laws. They should be directed toward the people who make them not at the people who protect and enforce them. Spec. Andrew Kohl Vilsick Germany just doing their Job in response to lighten up maps sept. 28it never ceases to amaze me How people not involved in Law enforcement Are so knowledgeable when it comes to doing the Job. " correcting violators of the Law is Only one of the Many jobs an my is tasked with. Unfortunately it s the one we Are most persecuted for. No one enjoys being stopped in Plain View of the Public to be told they were wrong especially by someone younger than they but we kids As you say Are obeying and enforcing the orders supplied to us by the commanders of this installation. If you have a personal problem with the rules and regulations of Vil Seck you should direct them to the proper authorities. _ i can t help but find it ironic How someone like yourself is so Quick to Contact maps in time of need and want to see More patrols on the Road to protect our housing areas personnel and equipment. That s what my Job is about. It sounds to me that your problem in t with the maps but with your foot and Gas pedal. Why Don t you take your car to the army and air Force Exchange service and then write a letter to the editor about How much those kids charged you to repair you accelerator spec Keith _ a Heck Germany commentary movers always must have the right stuff by Celestine sible Atlanta Constitution it has always been my boast that i Don t care i can work anywhere. Any spot where you can balance a typewriter or a Lap computer on your Knees is fair enough. I have been comfortable on planes and trains the Back seat of a staff car a Rock in the Creek. To Huff last had the extra advantage of Cooling the feet while the heat of prose coursed through the fingers or so i said. The human spirit should be ready to move when necessary shedding your surroundings May be like the Caterpillar shedding his cocoon and becoming a Beautiful Butterfly. Us huh. / l but i did t feel so Butterfly ish approaching my new digs this week. After 20 years in what i still think of As the new building i be worked in three other these newspapers Are remodel ing packing us up moving us around. We loaded boxes for weeks. I was Lucky to have efficient help from Debo Rah Roberts an accomplished Secretary and enthusiastic Strong Back help in my grandson David Vance who is Only 15 years old but 6 feet 3 inches tall with a phenomenal reach. When Allawas packed we had to dig out boxes once More to prepare for a television commercial. Then i was instructed to stay at Home. There seemed to be a feeling that i was expendable on moving Day. I might get in the Way or cry or yell imprecations at the movers. Wondering that they could dispense with my services i did stay away though by monday morning i was wishing i had been there. Would they be gentle with the late Henry Toombs naked lady statue Harold Martin the columnist inherited her from the famous Atlanta architect and bequeathed her to me there s a Federal Agency that Doest like such things in the workplace but i keep it out of sight and i do use it and cherish it along with a yardstick that had the old Constitution Telephone num Ber Walnut 6565, on it. These artefacts Are dear to my heart but meaningless to anybody else. Would they be treated with proper care and re Spect by the movers it seems that our packers and movers Are As tender and gentle As Young poets. Everything i loved and wanted to keep was hauled into the new place. It s a floor away from the old office and really very pleasant. Two big windows look out on Marietta Street with the tops of our Fin est skyscrapers towering in the distance Over a dental Laboratory and a parking garage across the Street. Bewildering stacks of Brown boxes still line Walls and fill Corners but there is a Nice new desk a big table to hold the computer and a Telephone already connected and working. Boxes Are labelled some precisely some with obscure eloquence like we dont know How Long we re for this spot should i hang pictures get a new Plant for my brass Spittoon relic of the Days when the state furnished them to its lawmakers i forget which Box contains my dictionary.
