Shape up soldiers As a Soldier of the . Army i would like to give my Point of View on the Ridi Cule females soldiers Are forced endure.-. -. " As a participating member for Atlantic resolve i am fed up with All of the adolescent soldiers of All ranks we mus face every Day any Soldier who has been in the Mili tary for Over an hour knows that harassment will hot be tolerated within any Branch of the service. It is obvious whatnot All military personnel adhere to tie Stern warnings regarding this subject. One morning As my co worker and i walked to work a group of male soldiers out for a morning run Sang to Hook the left run with had we not been so stunned we would have done just that and got their names As Well As their unit. Why Are men still so intimidated by females in the military that they feel the need to subject us to this Type of behaviour it is this Type of behaviour that has been stereotyping females for the Many years thus prohibiting females to Excel to their full capacity. As a Soldier l would Hope this letter will encourage All soldiers to think before they speak. Sgt. . Miller the Hague Netherlands dump lie detectors your recent coverage of the Aldrich Ames espionage Case brings to the surface some Good Point regarding the depart ment of defense s Reliance on the poly graph or what is commonly referred to Ashe lie articles pointed but that Ames had taken and passed several polygraphs Given by the Cia Over the course of his career. In All cases Ames passed the tests with flying colors. How can the . Government continue to rely on a machine to determine its Security posture when it obviously can Tcatch someone like Ames no Federal or state court allows the poly graph results to be used during the course of a trial. Yet the department of defense continues to rely on and use the polygraph especially in it Law info be ment activities. I know what it is like to undergo the demeaning process of having your integ Rity Honor and credibility questioned by a machine. Even though i had honorable served my country for five and a half years on Active duty willingly left my family be Hind on deployments and endured the general sacrifices expected of military service i too was called in one Day hooked to a polygraph and then questioned for hours on end. All this in name of Security and safety. The entire process left me drained and frustrated that years of dedicated service top Block noncommissioned officers an the Well earned respect of my Peers were being questioned by a polygraph professional based Only on the results of a machine. ,. The whole process makes me wonder if Congress is aware that its Siewic Emem ers Are like common criminals. If the polygraph is As unreliable As shown by the Ames Case Why is the american taxpayer being asked to fund sentence ridiculous i read with great interest a recent Story referring to the trial of germans for insulting visitors to a concentration Camp. I could not believe that a 23-year-old Man Able to vote in his country s elections for the past five year was tried in a juvenile court and Given a sentence of probation. The German male s ego is fragile at Best witness the passing on the Auto Bahn or elsewhere because you Are ahead of him but this is ridiculous. a Germany party appreciated Many thanks to the spa Dahlem first sergeants association top 3, chiefs group the Span Dahlem chapter of Theair Force sergeants association and everyone else involved for the dormitory Block party recently at Span Dahlem air base. It was a very entertaining event free of charge to the dormitory residents of Span Dahlem air base with food beverages live entertainment and other activities including a basketball Tournai ment. V -. Sometimes it seems that Junior enlisted dormitory residents especially single ones Are left out in the cold. Cramped quarters Community bathrooms and other unpleasant Ries unique to dorm life in addition to being far away from loved ones can make dormitory residents feel rather isolated from the rest of the Mili tary Community. It s great to be recognized As part of the team and shown the appreciation of our leaders with such an event " senior airman Steven j. Plater Span Dahlem a Germany commentary ing new health care Reform strategy. "-. An editorial by Scripps Howard news service health care Reform will be Back next year administration officials Are telling the press. Happily though it will come in new Guise reinvented under the influence of the past year s experience and next month s elections. Health Reform ii will be consensual fiscally responsible and incremental not All encompassing. the final decisions about what initiatives the White House will Back can the made until after the election. Here Are a few nominations for the list. Medical savings accounts Are the Best idea yet for forcing costs Down. They have other Virtues too expanding coverage by tiding people Over Between jobs increasing patients Freedom to shop for medical services and reducing red tape instead of an insurance policy Cost ing say $4,000 a year with modest deductibles and co payments coming out of their pockets a family would choose cheaper catastrophic coverage combined with a medical savings account a $2,000 policy for example and a $2,000deposit in a tax free Mesa. Routine medi Cal Bills would be paid from the account while the insurance would kick in when costly care was needed. Simple tax Law changes and no Public spending would make these possible. Eliminating the tax disadvantage of the self employed is a matter of simple fairness. The tax treatment of health insurance should be such that All individuals can buy their own coverage and keep it. When they change jobs. Insurers should be barred from can celing coverage or raising costs when pol icy holders get sick. The Law should facilitate the forma-ti6n of voluntary risk pools. For hard to insure individuals with costly medical conditions publicly subsidized pools Are appropriate. Expanding the health coverage of the poor can be financed by capping the tax deductibility of Cadillac health plans As the nation s governors have proposed. The paperwork required for medi care should be simplified and private insurers encouraged to standardize their forms. None of these proposals should be terribly controversial on the merits. In a few cases vested interests Are affected but the larger Public Good would still be.served.,. Here s hoping the reprise of health care Reform will unfold in. An atmosphere conducive to Progress toward that proper end. 5o Youa that Cpl 4kb 1996 15 almost 1&apekship that a Hoard you.
