both the Appeal by air Force chief master sgt Jeff Slocum and the Appeal by Navy it Jason Nichols and army National guardsman sgt Dave Thul appeals show Divide on Iraq War opinion March 18 and i help but notice a drastic difference Slocum piece was nine paragraphs on his right to state his opinion and our cumulative right As americans to do so and two paragraphs on Why the War in Iraq should be stopped now within those two Para graphs i see six valid reasons crammed into three sentences the rest of the column is his defense of his actions and opinions Nichols and Thul write 12 paragraphs explaining their position outlining their Rea sons and delineating what they believe will happen if we leave Iraq their column is de fending their reasons for wanting to finish what has been started Slocum says Many have died while doing the duty they All have sacrificed with great Honor and without question deserve our sincerest recognition and great est respect As heroes what kind of respect and Honor would we be showing to say to their widows and orphans and mourning parents that their lives were wasted were not even going to try were outta Here Nichols and Thul state we will win be cause we have a plan for Victory we Are saying we would rather go Home later with Victory than today in defeat has America become such a society of instant gratification that we cant even entertain the idea that something Worth doing might take longer than a Day a year a decade and still be Worth it just a Little food for thought the terrorists Are concentrating their attacks on the coalition forces in Iraq if the soldiers come Back to America do you honestly think the terrorists Are going to Stop attacking Ameri cans honestly Ann Lindner Bamberg Germany Pace deserves Praise under the senior Leader describes a sexual orientation As immoral and comparable to adultery he Crimi naumes and discriminates against a minority from his own Posi Tion of setting a moralistic tone doonesbury that is totally incongruent with the Princi Ples he has sworn to uphold military leaders Are hardly the caretakers of our morals nor should they be their personal opinions have no place in the Media when those opinions Are bigoted discriminatory and morally suspect in the 21st Century it is equally disturbing that one of our senior leaders is so Nar Row minded and foolish enough to make derogatory comments in uniform As an offi Cial spokesperson in this Case Pace should have chosen not to Tell it raises the question whether people with such a limited enlightenment on is sues of sexual orientation Are suitable to occupy senior leadership positions when they see fit to defame a Large group of sol Diers and civilians who serve their coun try proudly Sieg Heppner Mannheim
