   European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - April 29, 2007, Darmstadt, Hesse                                Page 10 stars and stripes sunday april 292007 a visit to Jamestown Jamestown is in Virginia Jamestown is on the James River it is on an Island Jamestown settlement the settlement shows the life of the English colonists who arrived in 1607 As Well As the lifestyle of the Powhatan indians who had lived in the area for thousands of years a historical interpreter mixes up a dish she will Tell Jamestown visitors about cooking Over an open Hearth the first women arrived in 1608 a Virginia Indian at a Celebration the Virginia indians want visitors to Jamestown to realize that they Are still Here Sites to see   wwwamericas4gomanniversarycbm  son in my by c Iochi my  toe Pocahontas a statue of Pocahontas she is shown dressed As a Young girl in a native american dress Early life the Story of the Indian Princess Pocahontas is one of the most famous in american history Pocahontas was the daughter of the powerful Virginia Indian Leader Powhatan he ruled Over Many tribes in the area we know very Little about her Early life when she was about 11 years old she met the colonists and John Smith one of the leaders he wrote about How she saved his life in the Story he said that the natives were about to kill him she got his head in her arms and Laid her own upon his to save him from death Many people think he might have just made up the Story it might have been a Way to test John Smith and show that Powhatan was in charge but no one knows for certain we really dont know How they Felt about each other when they met in London years later she called him father her later life after John Smith returned to England Pocahontas was kidnapped by the English her father agreed to some demands but the English did not free her the English taught her to read and write she adopted the Christian religion she was Given the new name of Rebecca while a hostage Pocahontas met and married a tobacco John Rolfe she was 18 at the time in an Effort to encourage colonists to come to Virginia she and her husband sailed for England in 1616 Pocahontas died in England at the age of about 21 of unknown causes Pocahontas was an amazing Young woman she and John Rolfe had one son who later settled in Virginia next week moms in the wild kingdom
