I with the establishment of the new Wing level installations at North and Northwest Fields the train ing Section of Headquarters 20th air Force has found it necessary to step up its maintenance training program to meet the demand of increased personnel strength. Effective october 4, a class of 24 students will commence studies in a High Speed radio operator course. The course i rjae 16 weeks in length and students completing the curriculum will be awarded a potential transmitting and receiving equipment mos. Beginning october 11, six officers of the 23d fighter Wing will undertake a 10-week course in general air plane maintenance. The course will include theory of operation on All phases of aircraft first and second Echelon maintenance and inspections. The 23d fighter Wing has announced that  Metal Welfling and Basic air plane and engine courses Are operating 7at full capacity. The Basic a a school graduates class of potential san 747. Mechanics each week. Students trained in these schools come from fifth air Force 13th air Force first air division Japan air material area Marianas air Materiel area and 20th air Force. All courses Are 12 weeks in length and qualify students for first and second Echelon maintenance repair inspection and instillation in their individual Fields Alf the 19th bomb Wing nor i Fields opening of the Remote control Turret school is expected during the month of 3etober. The sch by will acquaint students with the mechanical and electrical Fea Tures of b-29 turrets and enable hem to perform maintenance and repair of a first and self said Echelon nature. To order to attain qualified strength in other specialized aircraft mechanical Fields the local air Force is entering students in formal schools local bed in Japan. The schools Are from six to 20 weeks in length. And subjects include specialist training in propel lers engines instruments electrical accessories and systems Hydraulic systems and various mos courses in radio and radar. Personnel Are not immediately capable of undertaking full responsibility for the work in which they mave. Been trained. Instead they will be subject to fur tier follow up and on the Job training under the guidance of skilled mechanics. After a period of four to six months depending on the phase of work being Learned the student Mechanic is expected to perform the duties in.
