The general motors corporation presently has five men contracted to work As a diesel repair team. The present contract Origi Nally begun last May was termed to expire at the end of a year. Under that contract these men were to proceed to Okinawa to be responsible for the major overhaul and repair of motor assemblies. Their Job also consists of training military personnel in this Type of work. To Date there Are 20 personnel engaged in refrigeration mechanics train no eight in motor rewind and 30 in diesel repair. According to preliminary re ports received at Headquarters fear buildings on flight lines and some dependent houses and communication structures were damaged in varying de Gree. Other damage from the High winds which at times attained speeds of 125 Miles per hour has not been definitely reported. Buildings damaged Are located at Kadena and Naha air Force bases. A sur vey is now being made to de Termine the full extent of the results of the typhoon. Other reports received by general Headquarters described extensive damage to ships and port facilities but added that navigation channels Are open. One list is believed ruined beyond army transport private Peters inside Naha Harbor was described As seaworthy Al though it had sustained dam age to its Forward plates. The Victory ship Benjamin Frank Lin was also described As sea worthy despite some storm japanese ships in Naha Harbor were damaged but the extent of damage was undetermined. One of the japanese ships rammed a military government list near aware. At least two other lists were reported aground one of them on a ref. Another was known to be under water but officials believed it could be re floated. Several other lists were described As Safe and sea worthy. The master and Crew of one list which went aground on the roof was re moved and All hands reported Safe. All buildings were damaged and some completely lost in the storm wreckage which was fixed at $10,000,000 in preliminary reports. No firm Esti mates have been made As yet.
