When i volunteered i was told the unit would go to Ger Many for a tour of 33 months and return to it Eustis. We left the . On 7 april 1956, and expected to return in december of 1958. My ets is 17 feb. 1959, so the Gyro would have made my enlist ment nearly Complete. My problem is this since we have been Over Here my unit has been removed from Gyro. I have property at it. Eustis and by my not returning there it is going to cause me extreme hardship in disposing of my property. When my unit was first notified it was removed from Gyro my 1st sgt told All eligible pm they could either remain with the unit or Transfer to a unit that would Gyroscope at the expected time. I told him that i had property at it. Eustis and wished to Transfer to a unit going there. After about two weeks i was notified that since i had dependents in the command i would not be allowed to Transfer because of two pcs moves in one fiscal year. I told him i would waiver the dislocation allowance and move on the German Economy if necessary. I feel certain there is some circular or letter protecting Gyroscope volunteers who have been removed from Gyro and have a problem similar to mine. Sec William h. Gier editor s note usage urho replies As follows although a 220-20, concerning operation Gyroscope does not specifically cover the disposition of personnel serving in units which Are withdrawn from Gyro scope department of the army has in most cases offered cer Tain options to personnel affected. Such options normally provide for the return of the individual upon completion of the prescribed european foreign service tour to the former conus Continental . Information concerning options offered to personnel of specific units May be obtained from the unit personnel officer. I came to Germany with an artillery battalion under operation Gyroscope which de parted it. Carson colo., on april 1, 1956, arriving at this station on april 14, 1956. This battalion was deactivated in june 1957, and i was transferred to my present unit which was not under Gyroscope. My rotation Date was therefore changed to a 36-month tour of duty. Not too Long ago a new Regula Tion came into effect that stated that personnel who had Gyro scoped to this command would retain their Gyroscope rotation Date. My personnel Section at this time changed my rotation Backoo december 1958. About the 1st of september. When i signed my redeployment papers. The personnel sergeant told me that due to my ets i would not be Able to rotate at the end of 33 months. He also said that i would be involuntarily extended to a period with in 90 Days of my ets for imme Diate release upon arrival in the states. I had been Given the impression that the Only Way a Gyro scope rotation could be changed was if the individual concerned requested that he be extended to Complete a full tour or that he be transferred to another unit not under Gyroscope. I did not do either. Sec James r. Littell i was a Gyroscope Volunteer and my unit deactivated after i was Here 18 months. I was then transferred to a non Gyroscope unit. My overseas tour has been raised from 33 to 36 months. I would like to return to the i at the end of my 33 months. On my form 20, i am still a Gyroscope Volunteer.
