What happened in reality was the setting up of a 20th tactical fighter Wing in miniature. The 55th supplied the fidos 15 pilots and 25 maintenance and support personnel. But along too were 24 men from the 20th armament and electronics so 14 Field maintenance men four air policemen and three  of the 20th at wheelus is that residential Section of the base known As Tiger  one Story White huts provide living quarters. There is a mess Hall nearby with officers and airmen eating together. There Are recreation clubs for airmen and  on the wheelus flight line the 20th has its own hangar and operations room along with an orderly tent and an Arma ment and electronics a a tent. These facilities Are used by All three 20th  try at wheelus gives us that concentrated gunnery and bombing training and flying time which any top Squadron needs to keep in shape says maj Raymond. Stewart the 55th commander generally speaking we Fly four missions a Day and six on the two Days we do night Fly ing. So during the 30-Day period the Squadron gets in around 650 hours of flying All  and bombing is conducted at the Elotia Range 75 Miles Southwest of wheelus. Several kinds of bombing meth ods Are used including Low and High Altitude bombing. It Means hard flying for the pilots each of whom spend two. Weeks at  they seem to like it. As 1st it David Stroup a 55th Pilot  wheelus is really a Pilot s dream. The visibility is marvelous and the base facilities Are  is a change and a Challenge to the Safe men who go there. There is plenty of hard work to be done under the hot african Sun. But there is also a rare sense of camaraderie and the pleasure of an important Job Well done
