It was All part of a plot aimed at putting a Catholic on the throne and Fawkes and his co conspirators were hanged or killed in Battle. A grateful parliament made the Day a National Holiday and since then the British towns and villages touch off fireworks and bonfires to Mark the event. It s a spectacle not to be missed.
