A Gaggle of guest stars helps put Over the finer Points to the subject in this farce on Matrimony. Helping illustrate a few aspects of the subject is beautifully blonde by kinked Inger Stevens Walt s wife. F the stars stripes Corner by Carling Gresham any collectors have approached this writer with the suggestion for a european association of american Ca Nadian sponsored Coin clubs. The idea has Merit but there is much work involved before it could become a reality. Briefly such an organization would be similar to the american numismatic association Middle Atlantic numismatic association etc., All of which Are interested primarily in education certainly no one can say he has an adequate education in this vast organization would concern it self with such items As a Standar judging criteria an ethics code for All scheduling of shows special event Sand a regularly published newsletter. An association newsletter would bean excellent place for articles of new authors unique finds a directory of clubs news of interest to the american Canadian one will find two or three shows scheduled on the Sam weekend or on the same Date. As a collector one might like to visit All of them but find it impractical. With a centralized coordinating committee to plan shows in Advance the collector would t be faced with this practices could be controlled by such an organization by informing All members of the facts surrounding dishonest or Shady dealers. A Standard exhibit judging criteria could be adopted Fornall clubs competent unbiased judges could be selected for each Snow. Disputes Between members clubs could be settled by a committee set up specifically for this purpose. This writer has not seen the same exhibit judging criteria used in any two of the nine shows he has seen this year. At one show an elaborate display of coins books daggers pistols cannonballs won first prize. There was not one word of numismatic information contained in the whole display Al though it did show considerable originality arrangement. At another show a very Sloppy incomplete display of coins took third place because there were Only three exhibits. At two other shows there were no exhibits. The incidents Are not extremes but rather common in Ameri can Canadian sponsored clubs in Europe. The Berlin Ger Man american Coin club the ram Stein International numismatic society two shows Are to be commended for their exhibitions which were far Superior to the rest of the club show sin Europe. Quoted Here Are excerpts from the Ana club bulletin , no. 2, entitled suggestions for making numismatic exhibits. The suggestions Are for the exhibitor More important Are the exhibit classifications the exhibit judging criteria Ana exhibits Are divided into three groups As follows competitive exhibits limited to Ana exhibits limited to Ana members others who May be invited by the general chairman of the exhibits limited to Junior Ana members. Junior members May exhibit under group a if they group a we have the following classifications class 1united states coins class 2united states paper Money class 3 medals orders decorations class 4tokens class 5obsolete currency class 6coins prior to 1500 class 7foreign coins after 1500 . Class 8 foreign paper Money class 9all Gold coins class 10latin american exhibit class 11canadian coins currency class 12general, specialized including Odd curious mint errors other material not covered by classes 1 through 11. A most important part of the exhibit rules for competitive exhibits relates to judging. As a result the Board of governors has adopted the following Point score system numismatic information measured in terms of educational 36 value to the viewers.9 arrangement originality manner of presentation 30 neatness Eye completeness Range scope fend variety of coverage shown by 16 the exhibited material As it related to the exhibit title or theme. condition Quality of exhibited material compared to highest 10 known Quality of like material. Rarity considering condition of exhibited material. 10 w maximum total Points 100 numismatic information should always come. First lie Foremost in exhibit scoring value. This is the principal test for determining if the exhibitor knows his subject will qualify As a student of numismatics. Information must be adequate but need not be Long nor extremely originality appearance rate a High score next to numismatic information must be Given careful attention the exhibit should be orderly neatly arranged to that it will be attractive to the viewer. Completeness is an aspect in which the exhibitor Ean reach a top score easily if he displays a subject that is easy to show. Be sure the title fits the subject. Condition Many collectors cannot afford the finest condition but this should not penalize the exhibitor who is Able to show the Best. Consider that the viewer wants to see Choice rather than inferior condition. Rarity same general comments As in condition. Judging probably the most controversial part of competitive numismatic exhibits. Often leads to arguments dissatisfaction. We must have judges if we Are to have competitive exhibits just As we must have umpires to have Ball games. A judge must look at a display without Bias. He has to spend a great Deal of time looking at All the exhibits. The Wiesbaden Coin collectors club will have a one Day show at the Haine Berg school cafeteria on nov. 5 from 12 . To5 .
