Neu s running to the surprisingly vulnerable right Side of the Colt line carried the jets to one first Down on the opening series but then the Colts held returned a punt to their 27, and started to drive. A Morrall pass to Joh Mackey hit for 19 Yards and Tom Matte hero of the of title game ran for 10 on the second Colt play. With Hill lugging the leather Baltimore kept driving to the jets 31 Anda Morrall pass to Tom Mitchell made it first Down on the 19but that s when the tide turned for the Day although the crowd did t realize it. Three Colt plays including two Morrall passes gained nothing and Michaels first Field Goa attempt went wide to the right. The Colts seemed to begetting the break of the game late in the first period when Namath passed to George Sauer and the Jet end hit hard Blenny Lyles fumbled the Ball and Ron Porter of the Colt recovered on the jets 12. Matte ran to the six but inthe opening seconds of Duck super fullback malt Snell goes around end to score from the four Yard line for the first new York Jet tallying the super bowl. Trying to Slop him is Dennis Gaubatz. The jets whipped Balti More s Colts 16-7. Not Only do i think we Rexonna win said the colourful it quarterback. I that s the Way j talk you know me Namath said after sunday s 18-7 Victory when the subject of his pro game Guaran cont on Page $3, col l shoulder in the end zone an was intercepted by Randy Beverly was perhaps tipped by one of their linebackers because it seemed to hit Mitchell High on the and he added i think threw it too Shula explained that he switched from Morrall to Veteran quarterback Johnny Unitas late in the third period because we just had to get something going. I figured i would give Earl a shot at the Start of the second half Shula said. We got five Yards on the first running play and fumbled but it was t his fault. I let him try the next series. After that i went Unitas who Tore a Page out of the past with his dramatic fourth Quarter efforts to Salvage the game was asked whether he thought Shula should have put him into the game earlier. That s not my decision Al though i was ready to play right from the Start he said Unitas explained missing a fourth Down pass in a late drive by saying that s what Hap pens when you Don t get much practice. "1 did t have a real gamelan when i went into the game Unitas said. "1 just tried to move the Ball downfield As Best i could second period Morrall s pass Toto Mitchell in the end zone bounced off Mitchell s should Rand was intercepted by Beverly. Namath then directed the jets80 Yards in 12 plays for their Only touchdown. Snell started it by running four straight times to that Colt right Side for a total of 26yards. Namath missed one pass then hit Bill Mathis on a swing pass for six Yards and Sauer on a flare for 14 to the baltimore34. Sauer caught another for 11,Emerson Boozer ran for two and Namath s swing throw to Snell for 12 Yards produced a first Down on the Colt took it Over in two runs one for five and the second for four around the Colt right Side. Two other second period drives ended in missed Field goals by Michaels from the 46and Turner from the 41. In the last minutes of the first half Baltimore drove from its own 20 to the jets 15 with Matte running 58 Yards Down the right sideline for the game longest run. But Sample on his Knees atthe Jet two intercepted a Morrall pass to end that the last play of the first half Jim Hudson intercepted another Morrall pass on his 12 and ran it Back to the 21.a Fumble by Matte recovered new York s Ralph Baker on Thebolt 33, set up Turner s first Field goal from the 32 after 4 52of the third period. Clicked again at 11 02, Turner clicked again from the 39 after a 45-Yard Jet drive stalled at the Colt 23.when a 60-Yard Jet drive sputtered on the Colts three Turner added his final three Pointer from the nine Yard linear 1 34 of the fourth period. The Only thing left after that was a fantastic fourth period piece of drama by Unitas the Colts aging Star who was forced by injury to step aside for Morrall this season. The Colts who lost Only on regular season game turned to Unitas in their moment of need and Johnny gave them one More chapter maybe the drove the Colts from their own 27 to the jets 26, an then Beverly stopped him by intercepting his pass intended for Jimmy Orr in the end zone. Once again Unitas brought the Colts Back and this time it was for a touchdown. He started the drive by hitting Orr with a fourth Down pass for 17 Yard front his own 20, a bit of the old Unitas derring do. He completed three More passes in the drive which ended with Hill slamming across from the one. The Colts had one trick left it worked but it was t enough. They tried an onside kick an Mitchell recovered it on the jets 44. Unitas moved them tothe 19 but on fourth Down linebacker Larry Grant Ham batted away his pass in the end zone.
