And it was a Good year Hahn and Simonella joined the Dodd eur High school family and Brindisi was elevated to a Lah Grade school after a year As an ugh Grade High school. The i Hawks started their sports year off with excitement Dave Lyman returned a punt 85 Yards late in the fourth Quarter for a touchdown that gave Hahn an 8-7 win Over Bonn in its first Ever football game and the Hawks notched quite a few other wins during the course of the school year to establish a school tradition. Simonella made its presence Felt in gymnastics and wrestling and a Young runner Kimbolton. Turned out to be a pleasant Surprise in track in the 1500 and 3200 meters and Brin Disi s ton Clark and Anita Nelson were on the track and Field Honor Roll All year gaining the school some recognition. Tie older established schools ran solid programs and the Competition was Tough i practically All the sports programs. Berlin had an exceptionally Good year winning volleyball men s and women s basketball women s and Over All class b track Champion ships and having Becky Dean come through with her second straight Germany women s singles Case was repeated at several places. Zaragoza thanks to the presence of Anthony steels had the greatest year in the school history winning the men s and Over All Tennis title and the men s track and Field laurels. Torrejon had another Fine year As did shape upper Heyford is Asl Naples Vicenza and Bremerhaven. V7rchids to Guy Bennett for the Fine track and held meet he ran at . He picked up the Ball Only three weeks ago when it appeared obvious that there was t going to be a european invitational championship meet to replace the championships like there had been in Bonn and Berlin the two previous years. With hardly enough time to get things going Bennett spent a hectic month contacting schools and setting of the track and Field championships. He took in the Benelux and Ger Many regional and personally contacted the individual coaches at both meets. Most principals made it very Plain that any athletes who went to the Pir Masens invitational would be nailed with unexcused absences and any tests missed would result in automatic is. And the coaches had to take any purpose leave or leave without pay. The youngsters were going to be representing their school like they have All year. It s funny but during the year when the same students and coaches were winning trophies and other honors for the school these same principals were All Silks. How fickle can we be prep Pickin s wonders if the same attitude applies to say the band or chorus the to re sics competitors or other non athletic groups. We seriously doubt it 1 his column wraps up another year for prep Pickin s.
