Other rookies to watch include forwards Greg Ballard of Washington Cornbread Maxwell of new Jersey Kenny Carr of los Angeles and Walter Davis of Phoenix and guards Ray Williams of new York Otis Birdsong of Kansas City and Ricky Green of Golden state. There Are three new coaches but All Are familiar faces. Willis Reed Captain of new York s 1970 and 1973 championship teams has taken Over the kicks for red Holz Man now in the front office assistant Bob Hopkins has moved to the head Job at Seattle which Bill Russell vacated and Cotton Fitzsimmons former coach of Neu Ulm triumphs Heilbronn Germany Neu Ulm got a four goal performance from Vincente Hoppe and a pair of scores from Stanley Malcolm to swamp Heilbronn 9-0, in the opening game of the Vii corps soccer league saturday. Phoenix and Atlanta has taken Over at Buffalo. The Aba has survived its first summer of free Agency with no major upheaval. In other major deals Phoenix got All Star guard Don Buse from Indiana for guard Ricky Sobers Kansas City picked up guard Lucius Allen from los Angeles for a draft pick and in a three Way Deal Seattle got Center Marvin Webster and for wards Paul Silas and Willie Wise Denver obtained guards Brian Taylor and Bobby Wilkerson and Kansas City received Tow ering Tom Burleson a 74 Center. Then there were los Angeles acquisitions of Veteran swing Man Lou Hudson and flashy Ernie Digregorio in an Effort to take the pressure off most valuable player Mannheim terminates Heidelberg win string by Ben Abramss a prep sports editor Heidelberg is Mannheim s Chuck Fowler and Heidelberg s Tom Powell both scored three touchdowns Here saturday but Fowler had a successful Pat run and Powell was foiled on his bid As the Bison knocked the Lions out of the perfect ranks with a thrilling 26-25 come from behind red division prep football game. Three plays later quarterback Russ Rhine sneaked Over from the two. The attempted run was piled up by Heidelberg. The Bison held and then moved 80 Yards for the winning touchdown. Fowler re Hawks subdue Spang 19-9 Span Dahlem Germany the Hahn Hawks burned earlier in the game by a successful Span Dahlem fake punt stopped the same play by the skeins in the fourth period and went on to a 19-9 Victory Here saturday in Continental sports con Ference football  12-9 As the fourth Quarter opened the sheiks were fourth and three when the fake punt play backfired and Hahn took Over at the Home team s 36-Yard line. Following a loss Hawk quarterback Bill Dismukes passed 41 Yards to Steve Quistgard to set up Mike Snyders one Yard to  to and a Pat kick by Mike Ruiz who had two Field goals gave the Hawks 7 2 in the Csc National division race their Spang countered with the help of Keith Souza s pass interception at the sheiks three Bob Mickens 12-Yard run off the fake punt and a 70-Yard pass from Kevin Lamb to Jim fairly. Lamb scored from the two to make it 9-6 Hahn. Hahn added a Field goal of 25 Yards by Ruiz with 4 55 left in the half but Spang countered with Frank Askeland s three Pointer from the 33 in the third Quarter. Steve Harris s Fumble recovery set up the Spang Fig. Hahn had a 93-66 Rushing Edge while Spang gained 105 Yards passing to 75 for the Hawks. Dismukes was 4-16 with three interceptions while the Hawks stole five Sheik aerials As Lamb was Only 6 of 32.george Maynard and Frank Martin led while Souza had19-9 margin with 13 20 remaining. Spang the Hahn defense while Souza had nine 1-6, was within striking distance most of stops two interceptions and a Fumble re the Way but unable to threaten again. Hahn took a 9-0 first Quarter Lead on Ruiz s 35-Yard Field goal and an eight Yard to pass from Dismukes to David Hunter. Robert Carter s 30-Yard punt return set up the Field goal and Hahn drove 55 Yards on the running of Snyder and Jim Phillips for Theta. Covery Pete Lavea 10 tackles and Dan Hussion eight for the Home team. Turned a Heidelberg punt 11 Yards to the Bison 20 to get the drive going and he completed it with a seven Yard explosion Over the Middle for his third touchdown of the Day. The Bison had been hailed three times on running Pat attempts but this time Fowler was not to be denied. He carried three would be tacklers into the end zone to make it 26-19 with 9 30 remaining in the game. Heidelberg moved 60 Yards following the Kickoff but Mannheim s powerful defense stopped the Lions on fourth and one on the two. But the Lions smothered the Bison forced a punt and took Over on the Mann Heim 34. This time the Lions went All the Way Powell getting his third score on a sweep around right end. He tried the same play for the Pat but the Mannheim line up ended him rudely. Heidelberg tried an on sides kick with 38 seconds left in the game but Greg Kraak smothered the Ball and Rhine ran out the clock to protect the win. Mannheim took a 6-0 Lead Early in the game when Kirk Van Zee picked off a Powell Aerial on the 50 and raced All the Way to the Lions four. Fowler who was the offensive Star of the game with 123 Yards Rushing in 24 totes got the to on the next  Oglesby picked off Powell s next pass on the first play afer the Kickoff to get the Mannheim fans in the crowd of 3, 500 roaring. The Joy was Short lived How Ever because the theft was negated by a holding Levy and Given new life Heidel Berg moved 35 Yards to score Paul Cotter getting the to from the 11 and Frank her Man s kick made it 7-6. Heidelberg scored Early in the second period after Mike Cannon recovered a Bison Fumble on the Lions 36. Guy Hilden Brand s 19 and 10-Yard runs and a 14-Yard Powell to Ricky Thomas pass were the big plays with Powell rolling around left end from the six for the tally. Four plays later Fowler exploded through the Middle of the Lions line Shook off two defenders and rushed 34 Yards to pull the Bison Back to within a Point again but Powell beat the clock to make the count 19-12 by intermission. The Lions moved 67 Yards in 1 37 for the score with Powell hitting Hildenbrand for 15, Bruce Wilson for 10 and Thomas making a sensational catch for a 28-Yard gainer after Cotter had picked up 10 Yards on a draw. A play lost three Yards but Powell Quarter Back sneaked on the next play for the score.
