I also fal sely assumed i would be Able to take Termi Nal leave to clarify this i called my servicing regional personnel Center and was informed i can take All of the Ordinary leave i have coming during my enlistment and that i would All count toward my tour require ment. However terminal leave would not count towards that year. Since i can t take terminal leave i will Cash in those 30 Days. That will Cost Uncle sugar Over $1,000. Or i could elect to extend Tor 30 Days und then apply for Termi Nal leave and qualify. This instead of Cost ing the army $s.ooo, would Cost $1,400 and they would not gain a single duty Day extra for that $400.there is one other More important effect on me. If i am permitted to take terminal leave i would also be Able to elect what Post i wanted to retire at thus permitting friends and relatives to attend the ceremony. Since i can t take terminal leave with out extending for 30 Days i will be retired at a location of the army s choosing Tak ing All meaning away from the ceremony  Why bother with a retirement Parade at a a Post you have Only been at for three or four Days with no one there who know you i have a lot of friends at fort Bliss and the traditional ceremony would have a lot of meaning for me there. Instead. I will most Likely be retired at fort Jackson. . Some 1.700 Miles from family and friends.1 can see no reason Why a regulation would permit me to take Ordinary com passionate and emergency leave and count any of those towards my tour but not count terminal leave. The Only Dif Ference i can see is that if i were Given Ter Minal leave the army would reimburse me the Cost of travel and if i Lake Ordinary leave it will Cost me some $450 for round trip air fare. And immediately upon return to Germany i would pick up my clearance papers and Start getting ready to head right Back  it be Ordinary compassionate emergency or terminal leave is leave and i earn it at the rate of 2.5 Days a month. It should be left up to me How i use  me i will most Likely elect to beat the system by extending for 30 Days to qualify for terminal leave thus taking advantage of the extra $400 the army will pay me for not working. I Don t enjoy the luxuries of life that my married co workers have who live in government  the use of a free Washer and dryer a place to Wash my car a refrigerator big enough to actually hold a half gallon of milk standing up and a Freezer big enough to hold More than an ice tray. I Don t have Access to a Yard to walk my dog Barbecue Lay in the Sun or just sit and enjoy the outside and the neighbors. I Don t even have the option of taking a Shower almost German apartments have Only a hath which i happen to hate i live Only three Miles from work but i m unable to watch american to shows be cause i can t pick up reception. To some people these things May sound pretty Petty but really Aren t they the Basic everyday things that most Ordinary people Are accustomed to i resent not be ing afforded Access to some of these com forts too. I think it s unfair when a married e-4 with a spouse can be Given the option of either living on the Economy or living in government quarters. 1 Don t have that same Choice and would t even if i were an e-9.
