The heavily traded week was capped Friday by the new York and american Stock exchanges declaring several gaming stocks must be traded in Cash not on credit effective tuesday. The Market will be closed monday for labor Day. The Dow Jones Industrial average a 1.30-Point loser the previous week fell 16.20 Points to 879.33. The setback including a 10.65-Point drubbing monday was the worst since the Dow shed 22.26 june 12-16. The nose Index lost 0.68 to 58.54 and Standard & poor s 500-Stock Index dropped 1.22 to 103.68. Declines routed advances 1, 159 to 756, among the 2,113 issues traded. The fed which had tightened credit ear Lier last month triggered monday s Selloff when it raised the Federal funds rate Banks charge for overnight Loans a Point to 8v4 percent. As a result the nation s Banks raised their prime lending rate i Point to 9v4 per Centa 3 Viz year High. Most of Wall Street had anticipated the tightening which is part of the Carter administration s efforts to Aid the Dollar and combat inflation. But higher interest rates prompted investors to buy Money instruments yielding More for the Dollar than stocks.
