Up red hot Penny Pulz sunday tied an Lyga record with nine birdies in a single round and broke into a three Way tie with Pat Brad Ley and Donna Caponi Young for a 10-un Der Par third round Lead in the $100,000 rail Charity Golf  started the round with a 3-under Par 141 and ended with a 54-Hole total of 206. Bradley the second round Leader at 11 under Par suffered three bogies in the front nine but rebounded with two birdies to finish at 10 under. Young in third place after 36 with a 7 under 137, had two bogies but Sank five Bir Dies including the last two holes. Three strokes off the Pace were Sharon Miller and Sandra Palmer with 7-under 147. Miller was in second place entering the third Day but triple bodied the Par-4 15th Hole when she took three shots to get out of the , 25, sizzled on the first 10 holes with birdies on the third fourth seventh eighth ninth and 10th holes before bogey ing the Lith and 12th. She came Back with birdies on the 14th, 15th and 17th holes. Pulz a Melbourne Australia native who has never won a Lyga tournament tied the Lyga record held by five other play irs. A John Cook of Dublin Ohio captured the 78th . Amateur Golf championship sunday with an overwhelming 5 and 4 Victory Over Scott Hoch at the Plainfield country club. Cook left Little doubt after taking a 5 Hole Lead at the completion of the morning round of the 36-Hole finals. He fired five birdies and two bogeys and shot a 3-under-Par 69 Over the 6,865-Yard course. Hoch of Raleigh n.c., played himself out of Contention with a 5-Over-Par 77 Over the opening 18 holes. Cook began the morning round by Tak ing a 2-Hole Lead after two holes when Hoch double bogeyed and then bogeyed while Cook managed two pars. Hoch evened the match play tournament with a Birdie and a Par on the next two holes but Cook re gained his advantage with a Par-5 on the fifth. The Ohio state University student carried a one Hole Lead into the Back nine. Cook began the second nine at a Blister ing Pace winning the first four holes to go 5-up. He Sank a 25-foot Birdie putt on the 10th, birdied the Par-3, 148-Yard Lith Hole when his tee shot landed two feet from the  parred the Par-5 12th Hole to go 4-up and then increased his Lead again with a 12-foot Birdie putt on no. 13. Hoch meanwhile played the Back nine in 1-Over 37, but Cook managed to pick up four holes shooting a 32. Cook continued where he left off in the afternoon round. He increased his Lead to eight holes with a Par on the 19th Hole a 6 foot Birdie putt on the 20th and a 16-footer on no. 21. Hoch Cut two holes off Cook s Lead with birdies on the 23rd and 25th holes. Cook in creased his advantage to seven holes with a Birdie on the 26th. Hoch closed the final margin to 5 and 4 by taking the 29th Hole with a Birdie and the 31st with a bogey. Cook closed out the tournament with a Par-3 on the 192-Yard 32nd  blanked out when i made the putt on the last Hole said Cook 20. I thought to myself that it s finally Over and that Many years of hard work had finally paid  despite his Victory Cook said he did t consider himself to be the Best Amateur golfer in the country. I Don t consider myself to be the Best Amateur in the coun try not by a Long shot he said. I just had a Good week better than anyone else. I m super  the key to Cook s Victory was his proficiency on the greens. Hoch Felt that Cook s 25-foot Birdie putt on the 10th Hole in the morning round was the turning Point in the tournament. His adrenalin was pumping so much after he made that putt that he Felt he could make anything Hoch said. I was Only one Down at the time but he went on to Birdie four of next six holes and that got him really  Cook s Victory earned him a place in the upcoming world series of Golf and an exemption in the next two masters tournaments. 14 under after 54 holes with 68 Kite pads Lead to five in .
