I ran 12 Miles from my House in Queens to East Flatbush and Back As i do each Day in order to prepare for the great new York mar athon on oct. 26. Of yes Marathon training time is upon us already. It seems that it was Only a couple of weeks ago when i was Labouring through the Bronx on that glorious hot mar athon afternoon. Now it is time to prepare for the next if one were to measure his life by the sporting events about him he would find him self moving through a Span that seems to take Mere Days to Complete. My running was All the More remarkable because of the anger and resentment with which i started. These emotions Are terribly draining and i was so filled with them that i probably had no business attempting to run my usual distance and in my usual syncopated ride. My anger was caused by the Craven performance of the Boston Marathon committee which disqualified Rosie Ruiz who claimed to be the first woman to finish the race. Testimony indicated otherwise. And by her jumping into the race at the last moment As charged and thus making fools of thousands of magnificent americans who devoted so much time to training their bodies to run Rosie Ruiz de lt.kadi6h served much More than disqualification. Each Day when i run there is a woman who stands on the Corner of Barbey Street and Lin Den Boulevard on the Queens Brooklyn Bor Der. When i started this training regime Back in january the woman would glance at me. Then As weeks passed she began acknowledging me with slight tips of her head. I nodded Back a bit grimly i guess for at this stage of my training pain still was tightening the Cor ners of my Mouth. We had however quite a marvelous Winter in new York. I can recall Only one morning  footing was too Slippery to run. And so Over the weeks my legs and breathing built do you think we fee to have another Gottfr. I began thinking of the fireman who was standing on Alexander Avenue in the Bronx during last year s Marathon. He watched me run toward him run with this hot Iron bar scaring the inside of my Chest and he under stood and he swung his powerful Bare arms and brought his hands into a great clap.
