Vince was so motivated to be a head coach i m sure he applied for several jobs when they opened up. And those two years when notre Dame changed coaches certainly fit with what Vince was doing at the  Lombardi deserved answers to his two letters but each letter was probably one of do ens if not hundreds that notre Dame received. Maybe his letters got lust in the shuffle. Or maybe they got ignored because Noire Dame was still intent on maintaining its tradition of hiring a former notre Dame player As its head coach. Brennan and Kuharich each fit that requirement ask nuts Rockne had. As Leahy had. Eventually in 1964, notre Dame hired an outsider named Ara Parseghian who produced a 9-1 record that year and a 95-17-4 record Over 11 seasons. By 1964, of course Lombard was no longer interested in applying for the notre Dame Job. By then he was established As Green Bay s most cherished civic Monument. By then he had developed two nil championship teams in 1961 and 1962, and in 1965, 1966 and 1967 his packers would be the first team to win three consecutive nil titles including the first two superbowl games. And yet. Suppose notre Dame had hired Lombardi instead of Brennan or later instead of Kuharich _ it s reasonable to assume that Vince Lombardi Lombardi would have had the same Impact on notre Dame history and on its players that he had on nil history and on his Packer players.
