Stokes now 30, has been a professional Ballet dancer Lor the past 10 years. He had a Chance to turn the tables and spark the interest of students during a recent performance at Wiesbaden Middle school. Some like 12-year-old Cheryl Kahler were so impressed by the demonstration by Stokes and Ballerina Vanessa Ortiz that they now Are considering taking Ballet classes. I dropped out of Ballet when i was Young said the seventh Grade student. I was not going to take Ballet again but i d like to  the afternoon of dance was organized by school Media specialist Phyllis Bruhacz and attended by about 250 students including 90 fifth graders from Wiesbaden elementary the Middle school s talented and gifted students other Middle school students interested in Ballet and 30 advanced drama students from Wiesbaden High school. The Danca performance was part of an educational unit on Ballet that included earlier classroom discussions at the elementary and Middle schools by Shirley Bennett a former professional Ballet dancer who now leaches dance at the Wiesbaden youth activities Center. Bennett s discussions and demonstrations left students hungry for More. About half said they wanted to learn More about ballot Bruhacz said. We weren t too surprised. Ballet has a magical Quality to  they have been absolutely spellbound " Bennett said. They loved it. I had them do some of the Steps to show it is difficult. They found a Man has a role in  the value is immeasurable Bruhacz said. We Are teaching children to appreciate the creative spirit. If they have any creativity at All they can be encouraged to  because of the High interest Bruhacz asked professionals from the Wiesbaden opera company Ballet Hessl Sches Staat theater to demonstrate warm  and dance techniques at the school. Stokes and Ortiz originally from san Juan puerto Rico volunteered. I think it is a fantastic idea to bring dance to the kids Ortiz said. To create an interest we have to bring dance to  it s Good for us too Stokes said. It gives us a Chance to do different things we Don t normally get to do. We Are not just giving we Are taking As  for Ortiz this meant an Opportunity to dance the Balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. For Stokes it was a Chance to choreograph a Lively Chopin Mazurka. Students who liked what they saw in their school gymnasium will get a Chance for More soon. Bruhacz plans to get tickets for a professional performance in Wiesbaden for interested students. She probably will have plenty of takers. Many students attending the demonstration were enthusiastic. I thought it was super said 12-year-old Matthew Backer. I like How they  the demonstrations convinced him and other boys that Ballet dancing is not for wimps if women can do it said 11-year-old Shane Beers men can do  Page 14 the stars and stripes
