European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - February 10, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Page 16 the stars and stripes monday february 10. 1986 acc in concert in Heidelberg. Let there be Rock Back in Busineau Lead linger Brian Johnson. He s got the Jack Schoolboy Angus Young on Lead guitar. Story and photos by Anita Gosch staff writer t his place looks like the 51stslate of the Union a Mclead vocalist Brian Johnson told the several thousand heavy Metal fans packed into Heidelberg s Rhein Neckar Halle last week. A Quick glance around the crowded concert Hall confirmed the preponderance of mostly male mostly Blue Jean Clad Young americans with their give away military haircuts and acc colors and patches adorning their Denim jackets. So what was a civilian a female to Boot and no doubt older than most of the others doing in a place like that i admit to a certain fascination with acc in my younger Days or perhaps Daze would be the better word but surely it had been outgrown. I also admit i m not too fond of the band s newest album Fly on the Wall preferring instead the older and somewhat More melodic Back in Black and for those about to Rock. I made my Way across the Sticky Beer stained concert Hall floor pondering this unanswerable question and deeply regretting having forgotten my earplugs at Home As the five Metal heavies began their frontal assault blasting out the typical thunderous beat and screaming guitar riffs. Dodging scores of head banging fist waving fans playing imaginary guitars and very nearly rivalling Angus Young s on stage antics. I found Refuge in a not too crowded Corner of the Hall s Balcony. There was a perfect View from there of the mad frenzy taking place on the ground floor. Like a writhing twitching human carpet the fans pressed toward the stage arms outstretched seemingly paying homage to their idols in a scene not unlike an almost forgotten period of history. Up front by the barricades separating the fans from the stage body after spent body was plucked from the masses by Security guards and carried off someplace where they could breathe again. Then suddenly and inexplicably Angus fever hit me. Becoming hopelessly hooked on the incessant driving beat i too whipped out my imaginary guitar and broke into a ferocious duo with my companion distorting my face Angus style while mouthing the chords. Banging my head to the beat of Highway to hell waving my fist to shoot to thrill and singing no screaming along to the old concert classic she s got the Jack i too cheered As Angus slowly stripped off his famous Schoolboy clothes leaving on just his knickers. Rolling Stone Magazine May Call heavy Metal the idiot Bastard spawn of Rock and serious music lovers May denounce it As mindless drivel and nonsensical cacophony. Granted there Are a few bands that fit the description take fast Way. The evening s opening act sure there Are better musicians and More sensitive vocalists singing More intelligent lyrics. But judging by the crowd s reaction last week there is a place for heavy Metal in the musical spectrum. And As Long As there Are youths out there who need some form of escape heavy Metal will always be around. For me the concert turned out to be a much needed catharsis a Chance to simply get it All out of my system. Yes Virginia even people in their Post teen years have pent up frustrations i left the concert Hall exhausted my voice hoarse and my ears Rinn Inq but twas fun. Alter All. In t that what heavy Metal Sall about
