Anyone who has passed an eighth Grade civics class knows the Secretary is making a statement not about the budget but about politics. Clearly Secretary Weinberger is not interested in cutting the defense budget Hart added. He seems to be playing a game of Security and not National said Gray spokesman William Epstein chairman Gray thinks they re playing politics with the budget. He finds it far More than coincidence that out of the More than 1,100 military bases we have Secretary Weinberger can find Only three to close and they just happen to be in Philadelphia Massachusetts and Colora do. We re not going to stand for Andrea Camp Schroeder s press Secre tary said the congresswoman was suspicious of Weinberger s motives. She quoted Schroeder As saying it was t motivated by politics it looks like it was motivated by stupidity. They Are not really closing the base but just Transfer ring its functions to other facilities and paying $200 million to do so. Only Cap Weinberger could come up with a plan to spend Money instead of save an aide said o Neill could not be reached for comment. Pentagon spokesman Robert b. Some degree of lost productivity due to alcohol was reported by 27 percent of the respondents compared with 34 percent in a defense department health affairs spokesman said the Sharp drop in drug use is due primarily to the mandatory urinalysis testing by Dod. There Are other reasons such As in creased random searches by military police and dog teams and local education programs about drug abuse but it s Pri Marily the f Access of the urine tests that is the reason or the decline the spokesman said. The statistics showed that women were three times More Likely to use drugs than drink heavily. Four percent of the females surveyed fell into the heavy Drinker category while12 percent admitted using drugs. Single service members were 2 i times More Likely to be heavy drinkers than mar ried service members accompanied by a spouse. Singles were almost three times As Likely to use drugs As their married counterparts.
