While it is initially expensive to close a base because of the Cost of moving people and relocating facilities hundreds of millions of dollars can be saved in the Long run he said. Weinberger was requesting a special appropriation of $300 million to proceed with closing the Colorado Massachusetts and Pennsylvania facilities the spokesman said adding it is important that we know from Congress that it is serious about providing the  Goldwater has tried to expedite base closings As a Cost saving device.
