Department of defense dependents schools attending a five Day International student leadership Institute this week. However politics was not the purpose of the forum. The students most of whom Lead organizations in their schools used International terrorist policy questions to hone their leadership skills. This thing on terrorism brings everything together so we can use the skills we be Learned said Don Thomas a senior at Mannheim High school. It incorporates what we have Learned with news that is happening  the management skills the students Learned the first three Days were designed to help them become better leaders. Topics included leadership styles organizational Struc Tures human behaviour creativity and leadership negotiation skills motivation communications change and conflict time and stress management and nuts and bolts skills such As Public speaking fund raising and publicity. When the lectures were Over the students got a Chance to use what they had Learned. Professors from Ohio state University s Mershon Center a research organization that helps schools and governments Deal with Public policy issues suggested they focus on policies toward terrorism. Groups of students had to reach a consensus on a policy using skills in negotiation speaking understanding How others operate and other topics covered in the lectures. School officials said the Institute held at a German youth Hostel in the Hills above the Rhine River is designed to take natural leadership talents and refine them. The people who hold the leadership positions now will hold them for the rest of their lives said George Grant Ham social studies coordinator for Dodds Germany. If we can get them now we have trained our  students first asked for the training five years ago. Grantham obliged by organizing the first Institute. It be came an annual event. What really affects you is when you go Back to your school and you really can apply All you  participants said student apathy runs rampant in Dodds schools apparently because students switch schools so frequently and  Little attachment to a school or its students. The Institute gave them tips to counter that. Our Junior class has no Unity at All said Kari Miller a Junior at Ulm High. We re going to go Back and do Romany  we All have problems with attendance and motivation agreed Aimee Foxwell a Hahn High Junior. They give us lots of  a Board of regents consisting mostly of students planned the Institute. Many of the training sessions were conducted by students. European Community environment ministers have agreed exporters can Only deliver the wastes if they have the consent of the importing nation and if that nation has the proper equipment to dispose of it safely. Also countries Over whose territories the wastes must be transported in route to their final destination must approve such transports. Toxic waste shipments Are strictly controlled within the Community. But there have been fears the regulations could cause european Community exporters to dump toxic waste elsewhere in the world particularly in developing countries.
