Coupled with Cleveland s 117-104 loss to Boston the Victory gave Chi Cago a two game Lead Over the Cava Liers for the eighth and final Eastern conference playoff spot. The bulls end their regular season sunday by hosting Cleveland. Chicago trailed by As Many As 14 Points but John Paxson took charge for the bulls in the fourth Quarter by scoring nine of his 23 Points pulling them even at 96 with a five Point scoring burst. Washington pulled ahead 102-98 on a Basket by Cliff Robinson who totalled 23 Points but Paxson and Dave Corzine hit four consecutive free throws to tie the score. Jordan then hit his key jumper added a free throw with 24 seconds left and finally made a crucial steal. The win also gave bulls coach Stan Albeck in his first year in Chi Cago a sixth consecutive trip to the playoffs. In other Aba games Friday 76ers 130, pacers 122 Philadelphia Rookie Terry Catledge scored a season High 30 Points and Charles Barkley added 29 Points and 19 rebounds As Phila Delphia beat Indiana for a sixth straight win. The 76ers, leading 99-97 Early in the fourth Quarter scored the next six Points capped by a Catledge Bas Ket with 8 17 left to play. Phila Delphia led by least six Points the rest of the Way. The Toronto Blue jays denied that vengeance was on their minds but watching the Kansas City royals accept their world series rings in pregame ceremonies they could hardly help but think what might have been. Yankees 3, Brewers 2 new York Mike Pagliarulo s tie breaking two run Homer capped a three run fourth inning that enabled Bob Tewksbury to win his major league debut As new York edged Milwaukee. The Yankees ended Milwaukee s three game winning Streak the Brewers were the last unbeaten team in the american league and raised their own record to 3 1. It is new York s Best Start since a 5-1 getaway 10 years ago. Twins 5, mariners 1 Minneapolis Bert Blyleven pitched a Strong game and Gary Gatti and Tom Brunansky hit Home runs As Minnesota Defeated Seattle for its first Home opener Victory since 1980. Blyleven 1-0, struck out four and walked three in 7% innings. He lost his shutout bid in the eighth on a run scoring single by Gorman Thomas. Ron Davis who entered the game with the bases loaded retired Jim Presley to end the inning then added a perfect ninth for his second save. Gaetti had four hits and Kirby Puckett three to Pace Minnesota s 12-hit attack. Rangers 5, orioles 4 Arlington Texas Baltimore re Lief Pitcher Don Aase threw wildly to first base on a Pickoff attempt with two out in the ninth inning and two Texas rangers scored to beat the orioles. Tom Paciorek who had doubled scored standing up after the attempt to pick off Oddie Mcdowell. Mcdowell who earlier had homered raced around the bases and collided with Baltimore Catcher Rick Dempsey at the plate knocking the Ball Loose for what proved to be the winning run. Angels 10, a s 3 Oakland Calif. Brian Downing s grand slam his third Home run of the sea son capped a five run ninth inning in Cali fornia s rout of Oakland. Rookie Wally Joyner s second rib single of the game drove in the first run in the ninth. Downing followed with his slam off Tim Birtsas the fourth Oakland Pitcher. Winner Ron Romanick 1-0, pitched six innings and gave up All three Oakland runs. Ken Forsch hurled three innings of witless Relief to record his first save since 1978 when he was with Houston. Palmer retired the Side on strikeouts inthe fourth and fifth innings before Craig Reynolds ended the string with an unassisted ground out to first baseman Bob no Roundup Horner to Start the seventh. Cubs 5, pirates 4 Pittsburgh Steve Trout scattered four hits Over six innings and his bases loaded single keyed a four run Chicago fourth As the cubs beat Pittsburgh. Trout lifted because of a pulled Groin muscle after allowing both pirates runs in the sixth retired 14 of 15 batters at one Point As the cubs built a 4-0 Lead. Reliever Lee Smith the cubs third Pitcher gave up a run scoring single to Jim Morrison and sacrifice Fly to Joe Orsulak in the ninth inning before gaining his first save. Leon Durham and Jody Davis singled with one out in the cubs fourth against loser Larry me Williams 0-1, before Dur Ham was thrown out at the plate on Ron Cey s grounder. Shawon Dunston walked to Load the bases. Trout drilled a single into the Hole at Short scoring Davis and Cey and Dunston came Home when shortstop Sammy Khalifa threw wildly into right Field trying to get the Force out at second. Padres 4, reds 3 san Diego Tim Flannery delivered a bases loaded single in the Lith inning to give san Diego a Victory Over Cincinnati in the padres Home opener. Flannery s game Winner came off Cincinnati reliever Ted Power 0-2, the reds third Pitcher in the game. The padres opened the 11th with a single by Marvel Wynne and infield single by Jerry Royster. Royster s hit bounced in front of the plate and Power s errant throw to first allowed Wynne to go to third. Garry Templeton was walked intentionally to Load the bases. Bruce Bochy grounded to shortstop and Wynne was thrown out attempting to score before Flannery came through. San Diego reliever Tim Stoddard the padres fourth Pitcher hurled the Lith in Ning to earn the Victory. Cardinals 9, expos 1 St. Louis Willie Mcgee Jack Clark and Tito Landrum hit Home runs in the third inning keying a four run uprising that powered St. Louis past Montreal. The rally representing the cardinals first extra base hits of the season backed the Strong pitching of Bob Forsch who gave up seven hits in eight innings. Forsch struck out four and walked one in improving his career record to 19-12 against Montreal. Forsch also chipped in with a two run single in the cardinals 12-hit attack off Joe Hesketh and three Montreal relievers. Giants 9, dodgers 8 los Angeles Brad Gulden singled in Dan Gladden from second base in the 12th inning to give san Francisco a Victory Over los Angeles. Gulden s hit came moments after team mate Candy Maldonado was thrown out at Home plate by dodger Center fielder Frank Lin Stubbs on Gladden s third hit of the game. Jeff Robinson 1-0, was the Winner with last inning Relief help from Jim Gott who recorded his first save. Robinson left the game for a Pinch hitter in the top of the 12th
