May i share with you and a your readers my re " cent experience with the soviet people in november i f visited the soviet Union for three weeks with a group of 29 others. Our purpose was la meet average folks like ourselves and let them know americans want peace. Since we were permitted to move about unsupervised our task was easy the soviets i encountered were warm Friendly and accepting of us. They arc aware that the actions of our government do not always reflect the wishes of All the people. They believe most americans Are eager for peace. When i asked a 17-year-old soviet youth now he Ell about americans he thought for a moment and said i believe the american people and my people wont the same things peace happiness and the right to live their lives As they choose. But we also feel that War i profitable for the american industrialists and they wish to keep War alive. In our country we May not speak to our government about such mat ters. But from what i understand in your country you May speak to your government about anything you wish and we Are de pending on you to do just it might be time Tor All americans who have Felt frustrated and helpless about the threat of nuclear our to exercise the right Given to us by our Constitution. We must Start As the Young soviet said to speak to our government so it will know exactly what we want. An average american in California dear ate Raee american a while Back 1 printed a column describing what the world would a like if we had a nuclear War i asked my readers to clip it out. Write tit ii name Cross the top and mail it to president Reagan. Within three Days the president was Rood enough to let me know that he had approximately 100,000 columns on his desk. Wall or president. This is Only the beginning. There will be More. President Reagan suggested that my readers write to Brezhnev because that s where the problem Brezhnev is now gone and for the firs time in memory the chairman of the soviet Union is a Young healthy contemporary nun millions of americans can relate to. I am More optimistic about our chances of Ettine along with Russia than it any time since world Vii ill. The real threat is the ruthless mindless terrorism among the countries in the mid dle East How dots one Deal with people who believe it is a privilege and an Honor to do in Battle and that their Reward for heroic suicide la eternal life the lady who specialize in answers wishes be had the answer in us one dear Ann Landers my Mother refuses to attend my wedding because i have invited my sister to whom mom has not spoken for two years. My father will not walk me Down the aisle be came he does t feel like i am paying for the wedding myself. How can i make this Day a joyous one downhearted Bride dear Bride inform your parents that you d to to us them participate if they choose to. Do i beg. If they choose not to the reflex will be on them not you. Makeup your Odid to be a Jinjr no matter what. Keadin win ills of Cicai writers reply to critic of lie Detector aids drug tests a recent writer complained that civilians fur drugs and aids and fur Security by polygraphs was contrary to tic second amendment of the Constitution t disagree. I do not believe that such testing is an unreasonable search. The Constitution did not come Down from heaven with god s signature on it so let s not worship it blindly. There arc some things More important than a Bunch of rules made up by Isth Century Farmers Tor Isth Century conditions i Don t consider it unreasonable to know for sure thai the Pilot of my panne is not on drugs i Don t consider it unreasonable to know for sure that people in charge of secret documents do not hand them Over to the rus sians. I Don t consider it unreasonable to know for sure that my fellow workers and my child s teacher Don t have aids. If the second amendment denies me these assurances then we need to make some fast changes in the Constitution. Edh Hiton Pil Genell Germany this is in reference to a recent letter writer s criticism of the civilian urinalysis program cup. His objection on constitutional grounds must be overruled. If As a government employee you object to a simple expedient reliable test designed to discover criminal misconduct you should look for another Job. The writer glosses Over the fourth amendment to the . Constitution which he erroneously cites us the second amendment when he seemingly concludes that any measures which affront his dignity Ifil blatant violations of his constitutional rights. The amendment proscribes Only unreasonable searches and seizures when safely Security and the National defense Are at slake is it not reasonable and prudent to ensure that those persons Manning critical positions do so with a sober mind and a sound Constitution the . Supreme court Long ago ruled hint the military urinalysis program docs not run afoul of the fourth amendment As it ii ii reasonable seizure of bodily fluids designed to discover drug abuse and there by ensure the readiness of our forces of National defense. The cup is grounded in similar con Cerns not in an irresponsible Ca Lausness on the part of the Reagan administration As the letter writer seems to intimate. So fill up your cup at the office or hold out your cup on the Street. Capt. Anthony m. Werner Ramsten a Germany i be been following the juror caused by the proposition that All government workers have to submit to drug testing similar to what the military is doing. Seems Federal workers arc screaming foul no fair unreasonable search and seizure May 1 be so presumptuous to ask where was your voice your outrage when the Mili tary members were forced to submit where were the Acle and various govern ment unions ? and to add insult to injury in View of All the military members discharged from Active service because of positive tests now i read where some congressmen say drug no users should be treated for their problem not fired and please Don t lie aids testing in with drug testing. I won t catch n fatal disease that can be passed to my family from kiss ing a druggy i d rather not work in close quarters with a person carrying a potentially fatal contagious disease that no one is quite sure How it is spread. Either All government employees submit to random urinalysis and discharge or of her punishment or none be subjected to it. We. The military Are most definitely Federal government workers and we must play the game so come on civilian govern ment workers besides your pay Check what makes you any Rhein main a critic by yes. You arc rent the army will be searching your car inspect ing quarters furniture and appliances provided and requiring your vehicle to meet safely standards. Not Only that but civilian members of the army will be required to produce College transcripts Pilot s and Driver s licenses and certificates and even proof of medical fitness before being employed. It appears that there arc Only two alter natives put up with All these unreasonable measures to ensure he army has the Best people possible or find a new employer. Fit.
