Up Sily on years after the stale of Tennessee put John Scopes on trial for teaching evolution a group of parents is suing school official for leaching evolution and other anti Christian beliefs. Fundamentalist Christian parents say the Reading books used by Hawkins county schools Leach Witch Craft disrespect for parents worship of idols evolution and that Jesus was illiterate. The parents sued county school officials in . District court asking that children who find the books offensive be allowed to read from other books deemed acceptable by their parents. The Case goes to trial july civil liberties groups Call the lawsuit the most important censorship Case to come to trial in years. The suit will be argued in Greeneville a town about i to Miles Northeast of Dayton Tenn., where the Scopes trial began july 10,1925. The lawsuit says the books present facts supporting evolution As a fact but the Bible teaches that god created Man in his own image on the sixth Day of the literal creation  the parents and their children Are serious about their opposition to the textbooks some student shave been suspended for refusing to read the books and one Parent Vicki Frost was arrested for marching into her daughter s elementary school and demanding that the girl be Given a substitute Reader. Frost sued the school Board in Federal court. Earlier this year a jury awarded her $70,000 in compensatory damages. Some of the students have enrolled in private Christian schools since the controversy erupted in1983. Hawkins county is a sparsely populated area of Northeast Tennessee that Borders Kentucky.
