Enrolment dipped this year to 600 full time Stu dents a drop of 21 students said the director of admissions Mary Fiedler. Considering our moves to upgrade our academic standards the full time enrolment is higher than expected she said. Upgrading standards is part of a concerted Effort bythe Munich Campus Dean and faculty to raise academic standards and More stringently enforce Campus Stan Dards of conduct. Entrance requirements were raised last year to bring Munich Campus More in line with the requirements of its Parent University of Maryland in College Park md., said resident Dean Bill Mcmahon. The change also is reflected in the classroom. More students than Ever Are finding themselves on academic probation or being academically dismissed and Stu dents Are finding it tougher to make the Dean s list. A record 54 students were academically dismissed at the end of the Spring semester and 47 were placed on academic probation. Only 37 students made the Dean s list. In contrast Fiedler said just 18 students were academically dismissed in june 1980 and 121 made the Dean s list. The numbers reflect a real change in the academic standards of Munich Campus Fiedler said. They follow a pattern set by College Park Over the past five another change is in the policy on the return of academically dismissed students she said. Previously it was More or less understood that academically Dis missed students could return for another semester to try and get grades Back in line those students no must petition the Dean for readmission and Only a handful Are being accepted. Last year 44 students were readmitted on a probationary status Fiedler said. This year Only sin. The current crop of freshmen and sophomores continues trends set by their predecessors. About two thirds of the freshmen Are graduates of defense department High schools with the rest coming from High schools in the United states or european International schools. The largest number come from Munich Frankfurt Kaiser Lautem and Heidelberg High schools she said. This year s class had a Large number of late applications much higher than in previous years Fiedler said. About a Hundred students were accepted in the Las three weeks before registration began she said. Questions concerning the Impact of Gramm Rudman Bud get cuts and the availability of financial Aid contributed to the unusually High number of late applications she said.
