European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - December 27, 1986, Darmstadt, Hesse Saturday. Decembers 1986 letters the stars and stripes Ann Landers Page 11 positive changes forecast at Vogel Weh there have acc Ontl been several letters in this column concerning Day cart and Chilli development poli cies and concerns. Fortunately Here in Kaiserslautern. We have several facility ii Vall air Ellent care givers. My concern however lies with several other poli cies weekly hours infant care and equipment. At the Vogel Weh Center when patrons Purchase weekly hours say 40 Thuv must Wail until those hours run out completely before purchasing More. This sounds logical and sensible until you realize that on tuesday afternoon of have three hours or one or seven left from the hours of bought last wednesday. You can t Purchase to Mure until those three run out. If you have no weekly Rale hours on your card you must pay the Flat Rale for the res of thai Day. The Only Way to avoid paying the hourly Flat rate is to make a trip Over to the Center at expiration time which 1 have done on occasion. I have been Given several answers As to Why his is so. But none of them were really satisfactory. My second concern regards infant care. Both army centers and the Ramstein Center offer care for Chil Dren from 6 weeks to 6 months of age. Vogel Weh does not. Again i have been Given several answers the Pri Mary reason has been that ii is not Cost efficient. True three centers offer this care and True there Are plenty of family Day care providers in the area but if the vog Erwen Center is the place where the child will be cared for alter Sis months the change in Environ ments and caregivers May frustrate the child. This is to say nothing of the crust ration for the Parent in locating a caregiver or driving across town to another Center when Vogel Weh is most convenient. My final concern regards equipment. While i realize that equipment in t everything and that caring enthusiastic attendant arc the most important resource in the centers pleasant attractive surroundings Are also important. I have on occasion used both Ramstein and Vogel Weh centers and have been flabbergasted at the differ ence in equipment at tic to. It seems Ramstein has a monopoly on All the new attractive toys and equip ment. Vogel Weh must make do with older equipment some of it missing pieces donations and so Forth. This hardly seems fair. Could this be explained 1 understand Hoth centers come under the same mar Why Aren t policies the same and equipment distribution standardized Mary in Deven Lur editor s note Brit. Jen. Lwrence e. Hag Girn commander military Community replies child care professionals must think in terms of Quali by care financial management staff training Anil Community needs. The new Yogel Weh child development Center director is doing All of these. We have identified this and other problems in he current fee Structure at the Vogel Weh child development Center. A proposal to reorganize and simplify the fee Structure has been devel oped. We hop the new fat Structure Nili begin Jan. 1, 1987. The decision to not provide infant care is based on the Cost of providing care facility and equipment available enrolment participation and he fad that alternate locations for infant cure Are available within the Kai Send Golem military Community. The infant program is extremely costly and enrolment participation does not warrant offering this service at Vogel Weh at this time. The child development Center must operate As a financially sound Seif Sislain Lilg program and the new director 1 working Bard to financially manage ongoing program. He also is providing valuable input into the new child development Center facility being designed to include infant care and other child development Center requirements. Ramstein and Vogel Weh child development centers Are in fact integral program sections within the Ramstein Vogel Weh mar division. Money budgeted for equipment and supplies is allocated to the centers As determined by he chief of mar. We can assure you his decisions Are based on proven needs and Good justification. Child development Center directors arc responsible fur the use control and care of the equipment in their facilities. Decisions in previous years at the Vogel Weh child development Center on How to spend Money for supplies and equipment were not properly managed. Planning for the future and responsible fiscal manage ment was not evident now that the child development Center at Vogel Weh has new leadership you can expect to see positive changes in the Overall operation. Profanity by cos officers irks writer Over the last few years on my travels to different bases and the one i am stationed at now i have noticed a problem. It is the use of profane language at the work place by senior cos and officers. Note i have always heard it around the Junior members ii is language that 1 just Don t expect to hear from these people. It is very hard to respect someone who uses profane language under any circumstance. I have Only been in the military for a Short Lime and was wondering if it has always been this Way or if this is some kind of new trend i Don t feel profane Lan Guage is acceptable from anyone. Maybe some people can take a hint from this letter. Staff sgt. T. Bloodsworth Raf Lakenheath England dear Ann Landers i am 21 years old. A Fingernail artist in a manicuring Salon. It has taken a great Deal of time care and patience but i have let my nails grow until each one is 4 inches Long. I love the Colic took and take Pride in my beautifully manicured and decorated nails. I use Nail Art and wait jewelry before you decide i am crazy let me Tell you that two manicurists i work have nails As Long As of mire and i know a manicurist at another Salon whose nails on her left hand Are 7 inches Long. So you can Sec i am not a Freak. In the Angeles area super Long nails arc becoming extremely fashionable the problem is my parents. Dad says the Only Rea son i have done this is to show disrespect for him. Mom worries that the relatives will think i am a Kook. How can 1 get through to them that the length of my nails is my business . In Pasadena dear Pasadena the length of your nails indeed is your business but if you wish to display 10 four Inch claws be prepared to have people look at you a Little funny. It is different. And i m sure you d be disappointed if nobody noticed after going to All that tremble. Dear Ann Landers i read with interest the letter dealing with perfectionism in women. I am a reformed and recovering perfectionist and can relate to both the wife and husband in that situation. For years i tried to prove my value and my self Worth by cleaning my House and my Mother s As Well. I never went to work until All the Beds were made All the dishes put away the carpets vacuumed the books placed Back on the shelf by size and so on. My neurotic need to be neat drove away everyone i loved and cared about. It took three years of intense psycho therapy for me to icam that my need to do and perform was an Effort to compensate for what i fell was a Lack of character. In other words i was trying to earn respect and self respect by my orderliness. The Man who wrote to you needs to get his wife into therapy As you suggested. He also needs to Tell his wife he loves her for who she is and not because she is so Well organized and meticulous. He must be patient with her and not expect her to change overnight. I Call myself a recovering perfectionist because there Are times when i find myself slipping Back into old patterns of cleaning closets and vacuuming daily especially when i m doubling my self Worth. I know what that behaviour Means. But stopping the behaviour is a fight All its own. For Many of my relationships it is too late for this Man s marriage it is not. I urge him to try to persuade his wife to go with him to therapy. To her i say Lake the Opportunity to look at Why you behave As you do and ultimately free yourself from the tyranny of perfectionism. Learning i Topeka dear top thanks for n splendid letter. You Are right on lady. I can t add a single word of advice. You said it All. Dear Ann Landers Many people who work in personnel will be Able to relate to the following from a Job applicant Tarn a by Ling will typist who types 29 words per minuet and does Clur tical work. 1 have experience screaming Calls and bouncing a Check Book t can take dictation but can t do Cipta the transgression. Marital staus i . From . . This in t funny. It s sad. Every Day i get dozens of letter from adults that look like they were written by preschooler t worry about things like that.
