European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - April 14, 1987, Darmstadt, Hesse Page 10 the stars and stripes tuesday. April 14,1987 letters some spoil arc atmosphere readers say i d like to address two problems one of which has already appeared in your column and one which has , i d like to complain about those individuals who find it necessary to ruin the atmosphere of arc hotel. Recently while staying at the general Abrams in Garmisch we were frequently disturbed by the sounds of loud music and loud conversations in the adjoining rooms As Well As the hallways these disturbances were not Only in the evening after 10 o clock but also at 4 30 to 5 o clock in the morning at 6 o clock one morning the people in the next room had a Wake up Call from a Young female. She literally almost pounded Down their door an yelled at them to get up. Needless to say i was not amused when i stepped into the Hall to confront them. I respect an individual s right to have a great vacation but t also feet that he should respect my 2 year old daughter s right to a Good night s sleep. I also do not see Why it is necessary for people to litter the hallways with their Beer bottles cans and have Beer parties in their rooms. After Allisn t that Why almost All apr hotels have a bar facility perhaps arc should prohibit alcoholic beverage sin the hotel rooms and should then enforce the to my next Issue. 1 called the arc loll free reservation phone number and upon asking for reservations specifically at the Abram was told that there were no openings at any of the Carmi Schafro hotels on the Dales 1 requested i found this puzzling As these Days Are weekdays but told the gentlemen on the phone that i would Call Back to Check for cancellations. Exactly five minutes later my husband arrive Home for lunch. I asked him to Call because i could not believe there were no openings available. Sur enough when he called and introduced himself by rank and name there were openings available atthe Abrams no less. My question is does the arc reservations system have a policy to make reservations Only when requested to do so by an Active duty member i found this to be just another episode that displayed blatant discrimination against the military wire. Violet Simmons non Ulm Germany i d like to pass on my impressions of arc general Abrams hotel in Garmisch Parten Kirchen. My wife and i had the pleasure of spending two nights there. The first night we put ourselves on the arc standby list and were assigned to the Genera Abrams the Price was very reasonable $11 for a double room without Bath. The room was clean fresh towels hand dolls and Shower Mats were neatly folded on the bed and the usual assortment of soaps and Shower Caps were placed above a spar Kling White sink. In fact everything about the Gen eral Abrams was much to our liking until it was Lime to switch off the lights and turn in. From the hallway came the shouting Happy voices of children playing in the hotel s video game room at 11 . I realize i should have gone Down he Hall Way to the front desk and asked for assistance but i foolishly reasoned that the clerks could hear As Well Asi. And because there was a sign posted that stated it was hotel policy for quiet hours to begin at 10 .,that hey would shortly put a Stop to the festivities. Wishful thinking i m kept it up Well past Midnight and when the Little wonders mothers retrieved them we we retreated to a few glorious moments of the ladies shout ing Good night to each the morning after paying $3 each to cat soggy scrambled eggs and sawdust stuffed sausages in the hotel s Chow Hall we turned in our key and found a Gasthaus for our second night s stay. It cast More but sleep came easier that night and the next morning we ale a Hearty breakfast thai was included in he Price of the room. My Point is this if you re wilting to endure the noise by the Way several friends or ours also re ported similar conditions during separate stays at arc hotels or Are planning on making some noise of your own late into the night then afr Chas a Deal for you at a Price that can t be beat. But if you d rather have a quiet night s rest i suggest stopping by the German tourist office and having them fix you up with a room in a Gasthaus. You Lipay a Little More but at least you won t be forced id listen to the other guests Yelling sen a Tomor Row when it already is tomorrow. , Coulter Hahn a Germany editor s note Harry Connors Public affairs director armed forces recreation Center Ger Many replied the armed forces recreation Center la Here to provide All service members authorized civilians and family members of both groups with a location to rest and recreate. Our facilities Are located a some of the most Beautiful areas of Europe Berchtesgaden Chi Emsee and Garmisch and attract almost 700,000 guests each year. Unfortunately some of these people Are individuals who think that the Only Way to have a Good time is to drink too much become noisy and disturb either Guesta. There Are also parents who because the Are on vacation let their children stay in the video rooms and in some cases the hallways until the Early morn ing hours we would like to emphasize Here that these individuals Are the exception. Most of our guests come Here and enjoy themselves without infringing on their Fel Low guests right to a quiet night s problem of noise in the Central Abrams hotel has been addressed at teral Pefaur my Tift is meet ing and we have taken the following ship desk clerks have been informed that they Are to enforce the Aflcr-10 . The written notification will go through the individual Chain of command. The above actions arc now going into effect and we Hope Ihal they will preclude events such As those de scribed in the above letters. Arc was reluctant in taking such actions As we want everyone to have a Good Lime during their stay Here. Arc has been operating a Central reservations office Cro for the past 16 months. The Cro handles reservations for All three of our areas Gar Misch Berchtesgaden and Choc mss. More than 100 Calls Are processed per hour. The majority of the Calls Are for nuking reservations. Some however ire cancellations. It is very possible that when the letter writer called there were no rooms available. However when her husband called live minutes later there had been a cancellation thereby releasing one or More rooms. This rapid update of information is one of the advantages of our computerized personally checked this myself by silting next to one of the computer screens in Cro and watching a operator handle several Calls. 1 know How frustrating it must have been to the writer but i would like to assure her that arc has no policy of accepting reservations from just Active duty personnel. We accept reservations from All authorized personnel which includes dependent wives. Recent changes to Usa eur regulation 215-7 now allow us to accept reservations from retired Mili tary personnel and or Belr authorized family Mem Are not Here to turn people away we want every one to visit us during their tour Here in Europe an enjoy nil that we have to offer. All the items offered on our menu Ore prepared fresh daily. It is unfortunate that our guest we dissatisfied with his eggs and sausages. The satisfaction of guests is our prime concern. Had his displeasure with his meal been brought to the attention of the hotel manager it could Hare been corrected on the spot arc solicits the support of our guests in reporting incidents or displeasure with our service whether it be with food Bowel rooms etc., directly to hotel manag ers. In tils Way we on get the problem resolved immediately so the guest s slay will not be spoiled. Arc patrons Are encouraged to ask for he manager. It is their Job to ensure thai you our guest receive the Best possible service and that your stay with us is the Best you be Ever had. Of gyn appointment policy explained letter from Chevrolet Why is it that at the Wiesbaden air Force regional medical Center we have such a problem making an appointment with the of gyn clinic for a few test Sand getting our prescriptions renewed i am talking about the Hospital that is supposed lobe one of the Best military hospitals in Europe. Emer gency patients and released hostages Are sent there. Buta dependent cannot get in for on appointment in of gyn. 1 called Central appointments three times. Ever time i am told to Call Back the next week for an appointment for the next month since they arc already full this week for the next month i realize dependents Are not on first priority but 1am Over Here because of my Active duty spouse. There is obviously a problem Here and i believe there is solution to every problem. 1 would gladly go to a civilian doctor i did in the states. However since i speak very Little German i Don t even know where to look to find a civilian Doc Tor. Why can t the Hospital provide a list of English speaking German doctors i believe this would save alot frustration for All involved. Denise Gilbert Tobx dry editor s note col. Robert w. Cilmore director. Hospital scr arcs Wiesbaden air Force Region Al medical Center replies the difficulty in obtaining gyn appointments at he Wiesbaden air Force it clonal medical Center is very my. As demand for of gyn services greatly exceeds the capacity of our four gynaecologists to Supply those services we have established priorities for available care 1. Bom fide emergencies of any Type 2. Active duty patlenli3. Obstetrics local and Stork s nest 4. Non emergency gynaecology based on these priorities we Are Able to meet All requirements in categories one through three but we rarely have appointments far Naa emergency gyn prob lems in military dependent patients. In january for example we had 550 requests Fer Apponi rents in ibis category of which we were Able to fill 30, Pap smears Are scheduled separately and Are Mare readily available via our single nurse , the vast majority of gyn problems do not need a gynaecologist for proper diagnosis mid treat ment. General medical officers flight surgeons family practitioners and primary care clinics can manage these problems very capably and refer those hit they deem the near future we will require thai All gyn appointments be by referral consult so Aslo ensure the tour Small number of appointments Are fwd most effect of can clinic maintains a current list of English speaking German gynaecologists from whom oat can be obtained on m timely busts.
