Wilson Goode won renomination tuesday while Denver mayor Federico Pena was forced into a Runoff by Voiers who also rejected a plan to guarantee shelter for the homeless. Voters in Oregon meanwhile approved a lax Issue designed to prevent schools from shutting Down for Lack of Money. Pena who became the City s first hispanic mayor by so Ping an incumbent out of office four years ago was running second to attorney Don Bain in an eight Way race. But Bain was unable to Muster n majority in the non partisan contest so he and Pena will meet in Runoff june 16. With All of the City s 496 precincts reporting Bain had 58,003 votes or 42 percent while Pena had 51,650 votes or 37 percent. Slate sen. Dennis Gal Lagner was a Distant third with 11,964 votes or 13 percent. The City s daily newspapers depicted Pena As a it of ideas who lacks the management style o carry the through. Pena has countered that his opponents focused on trivia rather than real issues. Bain 52, a political newcomer accused Pena of being so smothered by bodyguards that he is isolated from the Public.
