European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - July 7, 1987, Darmstadt, Hesse Page 10 the stars and stripes tuesday. July 7.1967 letters readers answer complaining wife s letter this Teller is written in response id the army wife who Wanis changes made. I also am an army wife bul my views Are much different from hers. Sci there is a lot of Field raining in Germany bul it is a must Wilh be Able to gel in touch with your husband. I Don t know How Long you have been in the military or How Long you have been overseas but in sound like you Are scared and lonely. I m not going to Tell you life Gen belter because the higher up the lad Der your husband goes the More responsibility he will have. Maybe you should ukr the Energy from your Amiger and gel in touch with acs. You could join or Sun a program in your area that helps All military spouses Cope Wilh military life. You can make changes but you have to Sun with your own life first. Nancy j. Irvine Langron Lubold Cernay. I believe that spouses and families Are Given the utmost support and consideration by the army especially Inoc assigned in Europe. Being single 1 do not bemoan my lot even though it Means residing in the Barracks and being on Call for any duty or detail that arises after duly hours. I have observed Many married service members ferrying their spouses to and from the commissary clinic and jobs during duty hours. This is because the spouses do not have Driver s licenses and find in inconvenient to use he Post shuttle bus. Somehow none of this time and attention is begrudge the spouse. While assigned to my present company i have experienced Many Field duties in which a married service member is resumed to the rear because of problems a spouse cannot or will not handle. This is not to men Tion the married service members who were not included in the Field exercise because of known problems at Home. Even though some of the problems seen very transparent again this time and attention is not be grudge the spouse. Perhaps the letter s author would like army regulations changed in such a Way that Only single soldiers would pull Field duly jus As the service member is expected to behave in a professional and responsible manner so should the wives. As we say in my unit Buck up ladies As an appropriate addition to this letter you might find in interesting to know thai my company com Mander has just scheduled a meeting of All spouses to inform them of help and assistance available to them in the coming months. This is due to the fact that the company will be involved in extensive Field exercises requiring service members 10 be away from Home. Spec. 4 monies Carvol Bav Holder Germany my husband has been in the army for four years. We re been married three. I have never heard such complaining from wives in All my life every time i i urn around wives Are complaining about their Hus bands jobs. Bul that s just it in is their Job. When i married my husband 1 knew he was in the army and what i would be subject to. Believe me we have been through a lot but we have always made it-1 support my husband any Way i can. In makes him feel better and he does t have to worry if i m going to yell at him for something his Job is making him do. No my husband is not an officer he s an e-4. 1 feet if wives put their Energy in something Worth while they would find they and their husbands would be happier. Name and location wll Hutu this letter and letters Tike it tend to raise my blood pressure. It amazes me How Many wives Are so dependent upon their husbands. The army s Mission and sole distance is to defend our country. Your husbands volunteered to defend the country and Field training is an important function in learning their Job. I am a single female Soldier so i have had to learn to survive without help. You would t believe Bow re warding it is to know you can shop buy and sell a car House or almost anything without assistance of a num. I realize in might be lonely around the House for three or four weeks but also try and think what would happen if a War broke out and no one knew How to operate their equipment or move from location to location in a minimal amount of time. Your husband could be gone forever. Wise up ladies. Dependence on a person is an awful thing. Name withheld Heidelberg t Don t think it s so much the army regulations which need to change As it is a change in the Frame of mind of some wives. Yes the army does Send our husbands to the held for training bul what would we do if they did t get some Type of exercise to be pre pared in the event of a real War. Maybe there arc some nights they can Lake time out to relax have a few drinks and maybe even watch a few movies. But what about the other Days they Are working hard in the rain and mud or the cold and Snow or even in the heat and dry weather they Are at the lop of my list doing what they feet is Best for our country. Surprise yourself by completing a task without leaning on your husband or his commander. Don t let anything in life be a Handicap for you. Dig Down inside and find that special Talent we All have 10 get things done on our own. Name Wilb Clef Hugo Germany i agree with the woman who wrote concerning minor major changes when in comes to army regulations. I can understand major Field operations Hul these minor Field outings for two Days or ten arc useless. Why Noi put them in classrooms citing to the Field takes time away from the family when we need them the most. We arc in a foreign country and in most cases Don t know the language. Our families arc Back in the Stales so we arc basically isolated. The army does t care about the families Only it self. And the first sergeant and commanders Don t care because they can get out of going to the Field. We arc just As important As the service members if not More so. Without us where would our spouses be where would the military be a. Curington Tinati Germany from the sound of this letter i Don t think she realized what she was getting involved in when she mar ried her husband. We soldiers work very hard in the Field. Most of us would rather be Home with our loved ones. There will be Days out in the Field when a company or troop will have nothing to do but you must realize that there arc hundreds of other soldiers from other units that have to be scheduled on those same ranges. I know How As a wife you must hate Field duty even More than your husband but we All have to do our Job. Cpl John Attebery in Edingen Germany. She stated thai we As wives did not receive training. Every Day is a training Day for the wives especially when the Are in the Field. You re faced with decisions. How to Cope and handle those situations is an important lesson. If War was to break out tomorrow they would not Slop the War because Lillic Johnny is sick or it s your anniversary. And it s probably going to be for More than three weeks. It lakes every Day one Day Al a Lime to lean to rely on yourself and those who Are left behind to support you. The army commanders leave professional be Hind Loaid us in Lime of need. They arc tools provided to assist us in time of emergencies Etc. Most com Manders Are there to listen to you or they have a representative available to act in their behalf. Be thankful there is someone. 1 did t marry thai com Mander either but i m thankful Tor him. I am sure that he would like to spend More time at Home too. I m proud to be a Soldier s wife and will do my part to support his role in the United Stales army no matter How difficult. I would like to thank ill the sol Diers who spend Many hours standing in rain Snow or hot Sun training to prefect what we All hold dear free Dom. Keep up the Good Job.
