Since its founding in Munich hum has spread to Bamberg West Ger Many and this year is opening at the army Cavern in Vicenza. It s a very worthwhile program especially Here in Europe where we Don t have the support facilities thai one finds in the United so alas said Kramer a respiratory Hera Pisl and paramedic with 15 years experience in Hospital intensive eare units and emergency rooms. The birth of the program in Munich initially was focused on the in residence Munich Campus Branch of he univer sity of Maryland but organizers quickly found out that the real need was among single military women. In Vivenza for example about a third of the women who attend the prenatal classes conducted at the local Hospital Are unmarried she said. Other communities also have expressed an interest in establishing branches. Kramer cited one Small location in Italy where in one month nine of 10 pregnant women became unmarried mothers. In Bamberg he hum program has helped seven women in he year since it started. I d say we have a need Kramer said. The program initially branched out o Bamberg when Kramer worked i h her sister Marti Hunt Mccullough who lives there. Then Kramer left Munich last fall for Vincnza and she immediately began laying the groundwork for a similar Effort. While the groups have had a fairly steady Clien Lel Kramer said the goal is o have none. Our goal of course would be nol to have any business thai there would t be a need for such an organization. Bui unfortunately there is a the need is met in a variety of ways by volunteers a shoulder to cry on moral and emotional support logistical support and on occasion labor and de livery coaching.
