Here it is Downside of child care Lis shown in new study All right working parents get ready for More worry and guilt. Adding to an ongoing debate about the social an psychological effects of child care new research Indi Cates that children who Are in Day care from an Early age Are More Likely to be uncooperative and unpopular by the third Grade. Full time child care also was associated with poorer study skills lower grades and diminished self esteem according to a study of Middle class children conducted by University of Texas at Dallas researchers Deborah Lowe Vandell and Mary Anne Corasaniti. The findings were presented at an International conference on infant studies held in Washington. This study found that extensive child care during the first year of life had Long term negative results. In Addi Tion children who went into full time care did not develop As Well socially emotionally or intellectually As those who were in part time care or those whose Mother stayed Home with them. A Bright spot for parents with part time jobs was the finding that children who had part time care less than 30 hours a week were performing Well regardless of when the care began. Page 11 letters Ira military pension policy explained this letter concerns the issuing of a second set of w-2 forms from the Denver finance office with the pension plan Block filled in. As a member of the . Air Force i received Myw-2 form from my local finance office. Later i received a second set of w-2 forms from Denver. Thought How Little did i know what was behind the issuing of the second set. When a detailed comparison was made one thing became apparent. The second set had the pension plan Block filled in. How does that affect me and Many other military personnel if you Are using the Ira deduction that Little Block can make your Ira deduction invalid my question to the finance Center at Denver How does an Active duty member of the military have a pension plan the Only Way a member of the military might even remotely be considered to have such a plan is if that individual has More than 20 years Active duty and is eligible for retirement benefits. Without those conditions i do not consider myself covered by a pen Sion plan. To have a military finance Center Issue such w-2forms is an injustice to the military personnel under the 20-year Mark. I believe it is my right and decision to claim the Ira deduction if i contribute to such a plan. To have a w-2 form which will prevent this is a error on the part of the military finance Center. I would like to know Why Denver issued these w-2s.Are they going to Issue them next year and the follow ing years Why did certain individuals receive them and not All Are military retirees going to receive w-2swith the pension plan filled in Frederick w. Keiser Raf Croughton England editor s note col. William f. Mallett jr., director of accounting he. Safe replies the tax Reform act of 1986 restricts the amount that an individual can deduct for contributions to an individual retirement arrangement Ira beginning in 1987, if the individual is covered by an employer s retirement plan. All Active duty military members Are considered Cov ered by an employer s retirement plan. In keeping with irs policy therefore it was not an arbitrary decision by the air Force. Although the original w-2s have the pension plan Box checked in Block 5, air Force accounting and finance offices worldwide were requested to publicize to All members that the Block should be checked. Although the Block was not checked Afaf did not re Issue the w-2s due to the Cost involved and the belief that the publicity Campaign would suffice. Without the specifics of your individual Case we can not determine Why you received a second w-2 with the pension Block checked. However we believe it was due to issuance of a corrected or duplicate w-2 for another reason. More detailed guidance on the restrictions for contributions to an Ira and its effect on you Are contained in the 1987 instruction Booklet for preparation of the 1040. A Short lesson on Iowa s universities a recent article by Robert Barr in the stars an stripes states that David Morrell the author of first blood the novel on which the rambo movies have been base Dis a former Iowa state English professor. This is incorrect. Or. Morrell taught american literature for several years at the state University of Iowa in Iowa City Iowa state University is in Ames some 120 mile further West. I know this because or. Morrell was my graduate adviser in 1975-76. The two universities Are frequently confused by out of states who believe that there is nothing in Iowa other than hogs Corn soybeans and Alfalfa. To confuse setting record straight after 39 years it is time to set the historical Facton How Many lives were lost during operation vittles More commonly known As the Berli Airlift. Over the years it has been variously published Between 77 and 81. Actually the Airlift s victims numbered 84 41 British subjects 31 american Citi Zens and 12 German nationals.
