European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - July 30, 1988, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes Page 11 aim Landers letters dear Ann Landers i was stopped cold by the letter from the woman in Kalamazoo whose mind snapped and she Felt the urge to kill somebody. Any body. Her psychiatrist said her Sud Den impulse was the result of years of bottled up rage against he Mother first then her husband. I was married to a Man who paid absolutely no attention to me after we returned from our honeymoon. He refused to touch me let alone have sex. I was treated like some sort of Loath some creature who had a contagious disease. If Myhand accidentally brushed his he would jump a foot. One evening As i was preparing supper i walked past him and my face touched his. He shouted getaway from me i was holding a carving knife at the time and was seized with the sudden impulse to Stab him in the Back. As much As i hated the Man such a thought had never before crossed my mind. By the Grace of god i pulled myself together and put the knife Down. But when i read that letter in your column i remembered How close i had come to Plung ing the knife Between my husband s shoulder Blades. Thank the Good lord i am out of that marriage no Wand seeing a wonderful Man. I can t Tell you How closely your column mirrors life and How much i be Learned from it. Please keep writing for Many years to come. Grand rapids woman dear . Thanks for those kind words. I plan to keep at i until my typewriter Falls apart or my brain goes haywire whichever conies first. Congratulations for getting out of that miserable marriage and turning your life around. Dear Ann Landers please help me save a Friendship of 30 years. My Friend has become deeply religious which is her business but Sheds now trying to convert everyone she knows. Our children three teen agers leave when mrs. A comes to the House. My husband has threatened to throw her out. I know she Means Well but we Are comfortable with our religious beliefs and have no interest in joining her Church. I have told mrs. X As politely As i can that we Don twant to hear any More about her new found Faith but she is obsessed with the subject. I d Welcome any suggestions Ann. My patience is wearing thin. On the ragged Edge in Ohio dear Edge obviously you have been too polite. It appears As if you Are going to have to Tell mrs. X that the next time she starts to talk about religion you will ask her to leave. Then do it. Dear Ann Landers the office building where i am employed has very Nice bathrooms for both men and women. It has come to my attention that a woman i work with has been using the men s bathroom because it is she walked in on a client of ours who was purple with rage when he reported the incident. Twice this week men from our office turned around and walked out because she was in woman has been instructed several times to use the ladies room. Her answer has been How do they know i m a woman they know because they recognize Tell me How to Deal with this thick skinned numbskull. Kidney problem sin Brooklyn dear kid most office buildings keep the laboratories locked and the tenants have keys. I recommend this procedure As a matter of Protection against creeps of both sexes who hang out in the wrong bathroom. Farewell to an old Friend the jeep you can Call this one Farewell to the my s oldest and Best Friend the our my company just got its new Issue of the Hummus recently. Everyone was talking about How great it would be when we got the new vehicles. I eve said that i could not wait. Well something happened that Day we had to turn in our old jeeps in Kaiserslautern that touched me and some other older maps Down deep inside. We started talking about All of the great times that we had had while working patrol and performing Field missions in our old jeeps Here in Germany. Some of the newer maps Don t even know that jeeps were used widely As a patrol vehicle but it sure was fun some times. It got you just about anywhere you wanted to go. In the Field it would get you Down some of the Small est roads and tight places that a Hummi could not even think about going Down. They were easy to Han dle and Man Euver. It was great to go buzzing Down a Forest Trail up and Down Hills or through a ditch. I know they did not Start a lot of times they broke Down a lot they were cold and wet. I lived with them for the past 12 years of my army life and i Learned enough about them to always take care of most of their problems without the help of a Mechanic. A jeep was part of every Branch of the army. Tank ers infantry artillery and everyone had the jeep. A jeep was Field a jeep was Garrison a jeep was combat a jeep was peace a jeep was Tough a jeep was fun jeep meant . Army to everyone. I sure will miss our jeeps. I guess someday about 20or 30 years from now some first sergeant will say to some Captain sir i wonder Why they quit using those jeeps they had them in the army inventory for over40 years at one the Captain will answer Prog Ress first sergeant that s is it staff sgt Mark s. Kravis Bamberg West Germany writer disgusted by abuse of children recently i was jogging on Rhein main air base on the Road Between the Mam base and the Gateway Dens housing area. I saw a car Hatchback coming toward me with the Hatchback open. At first i thought that the Driver simply did t know the dangers of exhaust gasses entering through the open Hatch into the passenger compartment. But Ashe car passed i was horrified to see two Little children Riding in the rear they were facing rearward an there was no Way they could have been belted in. I could t believe what i saw i was so shocked i did think fast enough to get the License plate number but i m hoping the woman driving that car recognizes her self in this letter. To that woman All i have to say is How could you do such a thing those children were not Only exposed to exhaust gasses As you were but could have easily been thrown out of the car. What you did was no less than criminally negligent. It s a Good thing for you that had already run two Miles or i would have chased after you in order to get your number and turn it in tothe Security police. I would have sworn out a complaint of child abuse against you i am single and have no children but whenever i see anyone who has been Given the gift of parenthood Dpt hings such As this that endangers the lives of their children i become livid with rage since i be been in the military i be seen children pen pals left in cars in parking lots being dragged by Little arms kicking and screaming through commissaries and exchanges and i be seen Young kids playing unattended in housing areas close to streets Way after dark the Speed limit in most housing areas is 15 Miles per hour but on the Side streets i usually crawl along at 5 or 10. If you Don t like the Way your kids behave in the commissary Exchange or Bank Don t bring them if you have no other Choice but to bring them please spare the Rod if the kids act up or see something they want or Start exploring there s no need to beat the up. If you Are firm but kind and Loving your kids will most Likely respond satisfactorily. But if you think the Way to control them is to beat them into submission you be got another thing coming i be read letters in the stars and stripes about parents who have been accused of child abuse by their neighbors and who have said in effect mind your own business. To that i have to say from now on 1 intend to make it my business when i see children being abused in any manner. A child has no Way of defend ing himself or herself against the actions of an ignorant or uncaring Parent. If you abuse your child in my pres ence As dozens have done in the past Don t expect me to mind my own name withheld Rhein main a West Germany i am 24 years old. I would like pen pals. Belsie y.
