In a rambling tape recorded statement taken by two White police officers mrs. Bond who is Black implicated not Only her husband and the woman Carme Lopez As cocaine users but also other Public figures in Atlanta. After the complaint was disclosed to Atlanta news gathering organizations Young called mrs. Bond to discuss it. She subsequently retracted some of the statements in the taped statement. The officers who took mrs. Bond s statement were accused by their superiors of violating policy by Dis closing the report to the news Media. Young was investigated by a Federal grand jury to determine whether he had attempted to obstruct jus Tice by tampering with a Federal witness mrs. Bond. Bond Bond was investigated by . Attorney Robert l. Barr on drug charges. None of the investigations resulted in any action. The investigation of the two police officers was dropped the grand jury declined to indict Young and no drug charges were brought against Bond. Lopez was found guilty in Dekalb Supe rior court on aug. 28, 1987, of Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Young then asked nine prominent at Antans Blacks and Whites to investigate the initial police investigation. The report deals mainly with delays the panel encountered in its investigation.
