European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - August 22, 1988, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes Page 11 letters Ann Landers writers have words of Praise for cafes since we arrived Here 20 months ago to Start our second tour i be been amazed at How Many people write to you about their Petty complaints on How the Yare dissatisfied either with the commissary cafes or an. Most of the time i love slapping Down my Quarter for a stars and stripes and turning to the letters to the editor to read some interesting problems an debates not this Petty garbage. It sounds like a broken record Over and Over the same complaints. What do you people think that if you change the wording some what that they la print a different answer the one that will satisfy you i guess you could say i m upset and a recent letter is the one that pushed me Over the Side. The writer stated the real Mission of our commis Saries and cafes is to make us appreciate America More and to do that they re making us live like russians and no other americans Are privileged As we Are to experience what life in a soviet style econ omy is really he also mentioned most of the people he know cannot wait to leave the european theater because of their dissatisfaction with the same facilities. We All at one time or another have been dissatisfied because the Supply and demand in t what or How we like it but to make those statements is ludicrous and uncalled for. Whether you re Only joking or not does t matter. Our commissary and Exchange Here in bad hers Neldare considered Small some of you have shop Pettes bigger than either one. We All should feel sorry for those stationed in a Remote site where there is no sup port. We All know life overseas is difficult and we mus learn to adjust to it. We Are Here for a purpose and it s not to act like spoiled immature adolescent when we Don t get what we want. It s time to grow up boys and girls. Keep in mind we make these sacrifices for our loved ones so we May keep the Freedom we have Here in Western Europe and especially Back Home. In t it about time we prove to the veterans of America that we re willing to make some sacrifices too one last Point the writer made was in t it about time somebody in authority cried enough " Well i m no authority but you re right on excuses to complain about Petty garbage. Name withheld bad Hersfeldt West Germany i am writing in regards to the Many comments that customers make daily about cafes. I am currently an cafes employee and a family member. As an cafes employee we Deal with Mili tary and civilian personnel daily. I really get disgusted with All the comments that Are made in the stars and stripes every Day. A lot of the gripes Are with civilians. We Are Here mainly forthe military personnel and we try very hard to serve All Well but it s hard when customers complain that they wish they were in the real but the real world would t take the trash that we take. The reason for this letter is to Back myself fellow employees and our management. We try so hard to do our very Best to please everyone. I agree thata Afes has its faults but if it was t for cafes All of you would be paying triple on the Economy. If you All would put yourselves in our places an realize the work and responsibilities we share you might Pat us on the Back instead of criticizing us Al the time. My opinion is that cafes does a great Job and i Honor what we All do. A. Ehman Heidelberg West Germany having read the hundreds of letters of complaint and woe for the last three years i decided that As i leave Germany and the military it was time for som Good news and compliments. The Good news is that the military in Europe never had it so Good. Remember there Are some assignments that have none of these benefits. In the compliments department i want to announce that Kelley Barracks Stuttgart Mohringer has the Best cafes shop Pette in Europe. Or. Griffiths and his Crew go out of their Way to have the Best and the most for Jayhawk soldiers and their families. Frau Schupp at the Burger bar has the Best tasting Afes food in Vii corps. Dear Ann Landers i have been hearing several late night radio hosts say they be Lieve Elvis Presley is alive. I for one am convinced that he is. Hope that through your column i can get people to respect his Pri Vacy. The King deserves to be left alone. It is perfectly reasonable alone radio person pointed out that Elvis got so fed up with ple following him around and pestering him and writing Al those awful stories because he had put on a few pounds that he faked his own deaths he could have some peace and quiet. It All adds up. Elvis is now 52 years old. He gave More than half of his life to the Public. There was never an entertainer who was More accommodating and generous. He put up with a lot of nonsense because he did t want to disappoint his worshippers. Now that the truth is leaking out i Hope people Willet the Man have a private life. He has earned the right to live like a Normal citizen. Please put your weigh behind this Ann. You could be a great help. True Blue fan in Tennessee dear True Blue i hate to upset you but there s some pretty convincing evidence that Elvis Presley died on aug. 16, 1977. An autopsy showed that although the cause of death was Aheart attack he had 10 different drugs in his blood including codeine morphine and Quaal Udes. His funeral was one of the most spectacular displays of hero worship this country has Ever seen. Within hours of his death thousands of people crowded around the Gates of Graceland. After Presley s body was pre pared for viewing More than 80,000 mourners filed bythe casket to pay their last respects. Hundreds fainted one Man had a heart attack a woman went into labor and the National guard was called out. The near riot crowds were comparable Only to those that stormed the Chapel when Rudolph Valentino Star of the silent films was Laid to rest in the 1920s. The commercial value of this great entertainer a Ade after his funeral continues to grow. His worshippers have proven to be a phenomenal source of Revenue. The people who surrounded Elvis during his life have in creased his $4.9 million estate to something close to $50million with no sign of slowing Down. Much of what you have just read is from a new Booby Malcolm Forbes. It is a compelling collection of stories about How the Rich and famous died dutifully reporting their last words and the family fights that followed. I was up until the wee hours Reading Forbes s another Vignette Mata Hari put on her Best dress and a Straw hat with a veil before she was driven to the French military compound to be executed. The famous spy refused to be tied to a pole nor would shallow herself to be blindfolded. As the executors raised their rifles she winked at them and blew kisses. Want to read More buy the Book.
