Grinders end regular season its not that time flits by so fast so much As ii is thai dodos football earns play such Short schedules but would you believe that this is the last regular season weekend Tor . Football Woodbridge 4-0 clinched a share or the .championship wild its 4-12 Squeaker Over Crough ton last week and can Nail it Down saturday when it treks a London which is Hill seeking its first win. The warriors already have clinched the lop seed inthe . Playoffs which begin Noil week by virtue of their Victory Over Laken Halh two weeks ago. Lakenheath is assured of the second seed because it has Defeated both Croughton and Alconbury. Those two clubs collide saturday to determine third and fourth place and the final pairing. Under the no. I is. No 4, no. 2 is. No j format the loser of that game will face Woodbridge and the Winner will meet ukr Heath in the . Semifinals. Semifinal winners clash oct. 19 for the right to play Host to the Bennor division i Winner for the Atlantic Region championship nov. 5, the four team Bennor division i conference Competition begins saturday with Halm invading is and accent going to shape. Last week Hahn played accent and shape played is in no conference engagements. Both games ended in lies. The deadlock cannot happen any More this season because ties in conference Competition Are resolved by tiebreakers. It would have been belter not to have teams play each other twice in the same season and some of that could have been avoided this year because Fulda and barn erg All had byes last week. However playing those games was the right Deci Sion because one by Tenor team would have been left hanging while the others got to play. Is already has one fewer game than the other three because a Possi ble game against a . Team was eliminated by the upgrading of Greenham common to High school status giving that conference six teams and no byes. It is a different thing in Germany a a Central a South and Italy because those conferences have five teams and someone has to have a Bye each week. Giessen opened its Central league Competition with a 12-6 overtime Victory on the Road after three straight non conference de feats iwo lopsided ones against big school Powers Numberg Ana Mannheim. The Griffins have not most a league game since Gissen became a High school the Only blemish on the conference record being a scoreless deadlock before tie Breakers were used to decide games in Stead of Only playoff representatives against osterholz. That Span coven 16 games. Marcus George whose Fulda team probably rates As favorite to dethrone the Griffins this season had some comments on my column concerning the inequity of the prep schedules three weeks ago. He penned first again let me say thanks for idling it like it is. Even though i got kicked by Charlie and Giessen for three years he ran a Good program with or without great athletes. 11 was sad to see the score ofic Ssan s first two games. In marked an end to a great tradition something thai is so lacking in Dodds at Helcl is. I would like to say that i for one Salute the accomplishments of Toth and Giessen High school and wish them a speedy recovery. 1 miss Toth Al ready ii was easy to get my players up for Giessen Ben Abrams and prepare for him. It was exciting to play a school with a High Standard of excellence George also backed up my stand on inc lettering policy. Thanks again for speaking out on the lettering policy you say what everyone feels but has no forum to use. I Hope Dodds coma up with a Dif Ferent letter for sports outside of school. You Mayuse my name t Bave no allegiance to sports outside of one win does t necessarily a season make but perhaps the Griffins an on the Road to recovery. They get a pretty fair lest this week at Home against Osle Ribolz which also won its league opener and it j i on the year. Fulda makes its league debut at Home against Baum older. The Giessen win Over Baum older was one of three i missed last week when i went 15-3-2.1 listed ii games in last week s picks but the Spain schools were Idle reducing inc actual Competition to 20, my Spain picks carry Over from last week. The 15-3-2 Effort raised the season record to 67 17-3, .798, the Best it Ever has been. Hoping every thing does t fall out from under me this week like Rota 33, Jun Goa 24 Tom Jon White 36, tampon red 21 Kalsen Puttra 28, fun Kurt 12 wurzburg28, Heidelberg 24, Ramsten 18 Wiesbaden 24, Stuttgart 7 numbers 33, pitch 0 folds 25, bmmholder20 Gleasen 20, osterhos is Augsburg 16, Ansbach 7 vilakl2, shape is accent 14 Hahn 16, is 12 bad Kreuz Znaco 28, a Oesterborg 0 Bonn 22, Karlsruhe 14 Ulm 26, Brussels 20 Aviano 33, Naples Grren 6 Elcenia while 33, Naples while 27 Croughton 22, Alconbury 20 Lakenheath 27, Greenham common 12 Woodbri Fie 28, London 0 i had some qualms about players of the week for this column especially on defense. Offensive plays Are easy to record defensive ones leave More to Chance. One coach reported that the visiting coach s Statis tics showed More total Solo tackles than his Home team had plays and another listed one of his player with six sacks and Only four solos. I always thought that a sack was synonymous with a Solo. If two or More players Are in on a sack no one individual should be credited with a sack such a tackle becoming a team statistic. Coaches please Check the statistics to verify accuracy and possibly eliminate Bias. Sometimes manag ers or statisticians lend to exaggerate. Giving everyone the Benefit of the doubt these sections will be made this week. The lop performances were recorded Byram slim s Mike Ghent and Woodbridge s Tony Merrill. Ghent won recognition on offence far his performance against Kaiserslautern. He scored on runs of 27t s7 and 58 Yards while piling up 205 Yards in 18 came. Linebacker Merritt was credited with 10 solos including three sacks and five assists i winning defensive accolades consistency paid off far Heidelberg s Tim Kaplan in last week s Dodds Germany 36-Holcgolf tournament. The new Champion turned in 82 both Days to de throne Ramstein s Gary Glenn who shot 81 he first Day but fell to an 88 the nest Day As Kaplan demonstrated better skills in conquering inc Pic like winds which whipped around the Berlin Golf and country club venue during Friday s final round. All the golfers and coaches seeing the course for the first Lime were impressed with the design and Beauty of inc Par to 6,041 Yard layout. The praised the course condition and assessed it As really Beautiful but really Lough despite its Short the tournament was Well run and club manager Cna Semko and her staff went far out of their Way to make people feel Welcome. The Golf coaches gof some business accomplished too. They already have worked out next year s sched ule and have made some recommendations that the feel will improve the program. In was suggested that three weekly meets be held instead of two like this year the feeling being that reducing the Field would Speed up play. They also suggested a revision in the tournament format thai would include different qualifying regulations Andt be elimination of flights. The suggestions will be presented
