If these fools had and idea what it takes to run a switch Board they would be a lot More patient. Our office has 12 incoming Telephone lines. Sometimes they All ring at once. Callers who Are offended when asked to hold would be enraged if the receptionist took care of a caller or two ahead of them. Receptionists do not put people on hold to be spite Ful. They Are trying their darn est to keep up with the frantic Pace of incoming Calls. Receptionists must keep track of where everyone sat All times. They must lie convincingly when the Boss does t want to take a Call. And they have to suffer the indignity of begging someone to watch the Board when they need to go to the bathroom. Callers ask for Legal advice and referrals to other companies. They want personal information about executives in the firm. They even ask the switchboard operator to look up numbers in the Telephone Book. I worked my Way through College in a variety of clerical jobs and i remember what it was like to be at the Bottom of the corporate Heap. In the two years that have worked in this office we have gone through five receptionists. All were Bright and competent but they could t handle the stress. Interesting footnote receptionists Are usually the most poorly paid people in the organization. Working the front desk is like being in the front Lin of a War. So impatient caller when a receptionist asks you to hold please Don t consider it As a personal insult. Receptionists do the Best they can and deserve your consideration. So there we were All captured in a scene right out of a grimms fairy tale at a most accommodating youth Hostel set for a week of Yuk a Church youth group Retreat. Why the Mere idea of it conjures up All sorts of negative thoughts. But wait there smore each of the five Days went pretty much the same awake Early eat what you can grab Ever see eight starved High schooners eat at a table set to feed four head to the slopes and ski our socks off until noon survive a Mountaintop feeding frenzy lunch ski until our Muscles knot or 3 30 whichever comes firs then finally Tram Down to the Hostel. Nope not done yet intramural basketball volleyball or indoor soccer swimming Sauna or shut Eye All set the stage for Din Ner at 7 you guessed it another grab All you can. Then we re off to  club started at 8 . A shoes off sit on the floor setting a modest beginning to a foot stomping Rock ing Good time by the standards of even the most outgoing High schooler. This Ain t no Meek and mild sing along to a hard to hear guitar. I mean we re talk ing i tech electronics electric guitars and synthesizers. We re talking High volume sound All around. We were bombarded with ski movies to pump you up skits that tickled the funny Bones and a Good hour or two of Quality spiritual enrichment that really tugged at the Ole heart strings. Then at a virtual fever pitch the kids dispersed to the bunk houses for Cabin time a period to reflect with their Counselor on thoughts delivered during  but no we re still not done. It s Back to club for another hour or two of entertainment Quality stuff. We finally got to bit the sack about 2 ., Only to Start it All Over again at 6  Let me Tell you that s no schedule for a weak pen pals sister. And for us grown  it was Tough City. Aside from the groans about aching Muscles hunger pangs from big football players who did t scrounge for leftover morsels and grumbles from harried coun Selorus it was simply mind boggling to watch this act unfold on this stage of puberty to see folks with wrinkles relate to those without. Through outpourings of troubles held Back and yearnings for purpose each life was touched by someone. And i could Only watch in Awe As the whole scenario was revealed to me Epi Sode by episode. So on a strikingly Beautiful thursday morning with vivid memories of wednesday s climaxing Day skiing the matterhorn the kids crammed the buses for Depar Ture. After tearful hugs with new romances and exchanged addresses with new friends the buses roared on their separate ways from whence they came Bam Berg Niernberg Berlin Frankfurt Augsburg Wurzburg Heidelberg and a Host of other bergs. Back they went to everyday lives never to be gathered inexact form again. The experience was Complete or was it the 88 ski extravaganza was but one of Many club beyond events. Routine by appearance they happen every week in communities across Usa eur. Everyone is headed by the regulars missionaries for Christ who have dedicated their careers their lives to reaching the hearts of our teen agers. These missionaries these chosen few have taken on what i now see Ashe enviable task. They serve us Here in Germany at get this their own expense. Their salaries Money to German plate their cars Money to buy groceries at the local Aldi come from our donations. For you seethed re classified a private organization and rightfully Soso they qualify for Only incidental military stuff. Well i be tried to convey How i feel now. But you have to witness it personally to understand. And to think of the number of kids out there with hurts an concerns and troubles with no place to Plant them. Parents even the Loving kind often can t fill that need. Maybe you Don t have a teen Ager perhaps you never will. But maybe you have one next door or your Boss has a couple or there s one Down the Street. You gotta care because these kids do things now which affect us All. The better they grow the More solidly they mature the better Well All be. My message is simple find the cd program near you and pledge your support.
