A a t m w by Walt Morrissette staff writer Torrejon a Spain first place Hahn 3-0 won its second and third straight Safe tournament games monday beating Wei Brincken 113-97 and Vou classing san Vito 123-81. J Wei Brincken rebounded from its disappointing loss to Hahn by stopping the Chicksands Fishtine chicks89-83 in Safe play monday night. The win kept the warriors in second place at 3-1 inthe five game round Robin. The Chicks fell to 1-2. Hahn 113, Wei Brincken 94 with 5-8 Glen Hixenbaugh out of South Bend ind at the Point coming Down the Middle and four of his horses filling the lanes on the fast break the Hahn Hawks took control of the tournament. The Hawks connected on 14 of their first 16 shots to score 28 of the first 37 Points of game in route to a 113-94 drubbing of previously unbeaten Wei Brincken the Victory boosted Hahn s record in the round Robin tourney to 2-0. The warriors fell to 2-1 after dropping their fifth straight to the Hawks this season we beat them four times this year Hahn coach Mel Mung said but each game has been a War we would take a 20-Point Lead and they would come  with this Victory Over the warriors the Hawks have taken a major step toward their first Safe title since 1972. Owens scored the last two of his 17 first half Points Walton dropped in two 15-footers and Strong finished off two fast Breaks for the 58-42 intermission bulge. Hahn did t Stop there. Walton put in an offensive rebound and scored on a pass from Owens in the first 30 seconds of the second half. Strong hit a 3-Pointer of the Corner and All of a sudden Hahn was up 65-42 thanks to 15 unanswered Points. Owens turn around jumper in the Lane after taking an Mounds pass from Walton gave the Hawks a 76-46 Lead at the 14-Mmute Mark. But Chicksands started off the half with a 14-2 sprint. With Winston scoring four of the Points. Rob Ert Martin s jumper from the top of the key made it 52-50 and Mcclendon s Lay up tied it at 52-52. Hicks answered immediately with a Lay up Wayne Miller followed with an eight foot jumper in the Lane to put Wei Brincken Back up 56-52. After Mcclendon missed a Dunk Hicks st9le the rebound. Moore s steal and Layup put the warriors Back up 64-58. The warriors stretched it out to 12, 74-62, with 7 00 to play. With Winston and Martin trapping the Chicks forced several turnovers and Cut the Gap to 78-72, but the warriors scored six of the next seven Points. The Chicks had feasted from the 3-Point arc in earlier games but could convert Only l-of-10 in this one. Hicks again led Wei Brincken with 23 Points and 10 rebounds. Reeves had 18, Douglas Moore 15, Wayne Miller 15, and Kevin Graham 10. Christopher Middle ton had a team High 11 rebounds. World ski championships w. German pulls upset in downhill Beaver Creek Colo. A Hans Jorg Tauscher of West Germany a non Winner in three seasons on the world cup circuit won the Gold medal in the weather delayed men s Down Hill monday at the world Alpine ski championships. Tauscher 21, continuing a tradition of unexpected finishes in world championship Competition was timed in 2 minutes 10.39 seconds. Switzerland s Peter Mueller the defending world Champion in the downhill and a favorite in this race finished 19-Hundredlhs of a second Back at 2 10.58 to take the Silver medal and Swiss teammate Karl Alpiger won the Bronze in2 10.67. Swiss skiers claimed the next two places As Well with Daniel Mahrer finishing fourth in 2 10.91 and William Besse fifth in 2 10.94. Two other favourites Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg and Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland finished out of the top 10. Tauscher s Best previous finish in a world cup race was fifth in a downhill at lax Switz Erland on Jan. 6. Tauscher placed sixth in two other downhills and eighth in another in what has been clearly his Best season. But no one expected his Gold medal break through on monday. He had finished no higher than sixth in any of the four training runs. The race originally scheduled for saturday was postponed when three feet of Snow inundated Beaver Creek. Earlier High winds interrupted training and contributed to a crash by Zurbriggen leaving him with a bruised Upp Erback and bruised ribs. Brian meanwhile played for the uni Verity of Wisconsin and spent five sea sons with the Winnipeg jets. His Trade to the rangers two Summers ago brought him Home to the team he loved As a boy and for whom he worked As a stick boy. Like his brother Brian has evolved into a More Complete player.
