Kathie Jacobson a psychologist at the teen age medical service in Minneapolis said Theno. 1 mistake parents make when they have overweight kid Sis to focus on the child s weight. The message is i Don t love you the Way you Are. You la have to change for me to love you " it was pointed out that paying attention to other assets such As intelligence and accomplishments will make it much easier for a child to lose weight. Weightless is a slow process that often takes six months or longer. This is an unbearably Long time for a youngster. The article suggested that parents should keep track of How often their conversations with the child revolve around food. If the first thing you ask your child when he or she comes Home from a party is what did you eat you re on the wrong track. And saying things like you d be so pretty if you were Only thinner May be meant As a compliment but it is devastating to Achild s self esteem. That article really woke me up Ann. I want to share what i have Learned. Please print my letter. Manhattan Mother dear . Gladly because i know that overweight children Nee special handling. Often they eat too much to compensate for things in their life that Are lacking. Following the suggestions in the article could make a big difference. In order to Check passengers for guns and knives a Complete frisking is necessary if the Meta Detector is not used. Be grateful they Are so thorough. Quit today imagine what we could buy with the Money we d save not to mention a few More years of your life name and location withheld writer proud of her someplace special i am writing in reference to a recent article called arty comeback of not so Plain Janes stirs in the last paragraph the article Speaks of . Sawyer feb mich., borrowing a Rainbow logo and the some where else slogan of a local to station. That slogan is someplace special not some where else and it comes from Woluc to Marquette. Somewhere else sounds like something someone would say who was not from the upper Peninsula but that is Okay. You see the upper Peninsula is indeed someplace special even though come Winter you some times May find yourself wishing you were someplace else. Smog is unheard of in the upper Peninsula we have plenty of fresh clean air to enjoy. Crime is not nearly As rampant there As in so Many other places of the country. There Are outdoor activities to please almost everyone summer or Winter Spring or fall. We Don thave Large cities in the . With huge shopping Cen ters but most of the time you will find people who Are Happy to serve you. Good old fashioned friendliness instill a Large commodity most everywhere you go there. As i was growing up i was anxious to see what Theresa of the world was about. Well As we near retire ment my husband children and i Are looking Forward to returning to this someplace special and settling Down. We can go out for a walk in the evening and not have to be concerned about who or what is coming up behind us. And one can still eat the fish that Are caught up there so to set the record straight the upper Peninsula May not have the excitement of the larger cities but it has the peace and loveliness of god s country an other appropriate name for that Northern Northern Michigan Nina j. Raeth Wei Brincken a West Germany fewer Federal holidays suggested this letter is to try to get readers to act to reduce the number of . Federal holidays from the present 10 to a number More acceptable to taxpayers. As most of us know Many of these holidays Are great waste of Money an enormous Burden on the taxpayer and help create the resulting debt. I propose that readers write their congressmen urging them to reduce and or change some of these holi Days in order to get More people working and fewer getting paid for not working. Examples change Martin Luther King or s birthday Obser Vance to the third sunday in january since he was a great religious Leader and a Man of god. Change memorial Day to the fourth sunday inlay since it also has a religious meaning. Change Columbus Day to the second sunday i october. Change veterans Day to the second monday or tothe second sunday in november. At least it won t fall on a tuesday to a Friday interrupting the work week. The first three of the above examples now fall on monday. Veterans Day now Falls on nov. 11. If these three or four Laws Are changed due to the voters urging of Congress to enact Relief for millions of taxpayers the annual savings and debt reduction could amount to Many billions of dollars. Think about it and then act on it. Charles a. Pick Verona Italy pen pals please place my name in your pen pal column. I am 44 years old.
