European Stars And Stripes (Newspaper) - April 14, 1989, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes letters High school Backpack Issue clarified in response to he three ram Sicin High school Stu dents who displayed their displeasure toward the Arti Cle concerning the Banning of big backpacks in Wurzburg High school a few Points must be made Clear. Pint of All he Banning of backpacks is purely in jest. We were never serious nor have we made any Type of movement or petition to actually ban the Mammoth backpacks. Secondly since Here is no overcrowding dilemma in ram Stem High As there is in Wartburg remember we House the Junior High As Well obviously you Are ignorant of our situation and thus have no place in which to be Able to speak from experience. To speak from hearsay is virtually a groundless foundation on which to stand. Another thing that cannot pass unanswered is the fact that you personally attacked the Scholastic aptitude of War Obure High school students. Wurzburg has placed first second and third before in the int Arscho Maslic academic games not to mention other academic aesthetic and athletic contributions. We have among us some of the finest students in the Dodds system. In might be needless to Point out that All Amer ican schools in Germany receive the same Quality Dodds education and not one school is Able to be considered lacking or inferior in this area. Our Outlook on this Backpack Issue " is purely of scholarly amusement and not of any Type of Petty immature or childish tyranny hat you seem to so strongly imply. The Backpack Issue has served a couple of Pur poses in our school. The obvious purpose being hat we Are Able to look at Itie humorous aspect of a Junior High school incorporated with a High school. We could whine and complain about the situation but instead a. Certain student was Able to turn it into something Posi Tive and allowed us the ability to look at it As some thing funny. Junior High students in a High school arc often left feeling unrecognized and excluded since it is the High school students who Are constantly being cast in the spotlight. With his sort of recognition however Small it May be some seventh graders themselves have admitted to feeling a bit More acknowledged. Since the three rams Cin High school students look it upon themselves to undertake the strenuous task of painting out what they thought of As the triviality of the Backpack Issue perhaps they might care 10 Dis cover that pointing it out might be in itself somewhat trivial. Wal Ryburg High school West Germany Frankfurt Reader intolerant of bigotry i be just finished rending the article by the woman who was recently assaulted by a racial Man who uttered it was not a gentleman. He was a rude ignorant and hateful Jerk of a bigot. I m glad to Sec that the writer judges her friends by. Their character and is against racial barriers. However not everyone is like that. A lot of us show our Igno Rance through different social prejudices racial ones probably being the most predominant. Prejudice is really stupid. It cheats us All personally and socially. Well never know who a person really is it we never give ourselves a Chance to know him because we think we already do. Through prejudice we could be depriving ourselves of the Opportunity to learn to love and to grow. On the other hand there is bigotry that is the real problem we must All overcome if we Ever want True peace and Harmony within and amongst ourselves a carding to Webster a bigot is one intolerant try devote to his own Church party or this also extends to other areas including race. The thing that makes bigotry so bad is the key word in the definition into ,.qranl a a in Hank we must All Ponder the thought that even in the Best of a lies at least a rootlets of bigotry in some aspect or another of our lives even if it is unconscious. In others there is a conscious seed and yet in others the fully ripened fruit. If we Are to Ever live together in peace we must control and conquer our big tries. We must open our minds and spirits to understand ing and enlightenment soften our hearts to love and compassion and Len ourselves to patience and tolerance then and Only then will we be so Blind that we Wilt truly see. John h. Swift Frankfurt West Germany writer defends Uso ban on retirees in regards to the retirees and future retirees using inc Uso i was very sad to see this Retiree so irked. The letter slated that the Uso does not have enough Money so they Drew the line Only Active duty. Obviously the writer has forgotten what it s like for Young families and the lonely soldiers going away from their Home for the first time. The Uso is a Safe Haven for the soldiers and their families. Most Likely since you have been in that situation yourself i can t understand your angry Atti tude. Being a Retiree you should feel Good about helping those soldiers. You of All people should know How hard it is 10 keep these programs open. By not donating to the Uso you re not hurling the Uso you re hurling the soldiers. If you Are a Retiree you were once to Soldier. I d be ashamed of myself. You had 26 years of Uso use. Give a new Soldier a Chance 1o Benefit someone donated for you. Jill Townsend Munich Vest Germany pen pals i win a pan pal my hot Tiai aia Eyd no got to Uia gym . Quit no Nti.
