Last week Spain staged its track and Field soccer and Tennis championships. This week Italy and tur key wrap up their Spring sports and by a week from saturday All that will remain will be the Central european track and Odd gymnastics and soccer finals. Italy will Host an All schools track and Field championship with big schools and Small schools trophies to be awarded at Vincnza Friday and sat urday. But the Tennis and soccer showdowns have been broken Down into two smaller meets at differ ent Sites the bigger schools compete at Notredame and the smaller ones at Brindisi. Turkey s track and Tennis finals take place at Izmir. Next week around the Germany Bennor track and Field front there s been a few changes made Augsburg will stage the Germany a qualifying meet tuesday and wednesday and Stuttgart will hold the aaa championships thursday and Friday. The a and bin nor meets Are still on Friday and saturday As originally scheduled at Numberg and accent respectively. The top four finishers and lies in each event from aaa and the top three and ties from a Germany a and the bin nor Advance to the Central european track and Field championships. Any other individual or relay teams which better specified qualifying standards based on the aver age fourth place time distance or height Over the last seven years also qualify for the Central european championships. They have a new Date too wednesday and thursday May 24-25 at Augsburg. Gymnastics and soccer finish their seasons May 27. Speaking of soccer Dodds Germany sports coordinator Tom Leblanc said tuesday that no site has been determined for the a South boys soccer tournament scheduled for May 20. That tournament qualifies the final team for the Small schools championship May 26-27 at Munich. The other May 20 tournaments Are firm. The Ben enor boys arc at shape the girls at Bonn the a Central boys and girls compete at Fulda and the a South girls Battle at Ansbach. There have been a couple of queries concern ing the bumping up of the track times on the Honor Roll to the nearest tenth of a second for example a 10.56 time for the 100 meters is carried As 10.6. That was done because the track meets Aren t electrically timed and the rules say that the times should be bumped up. Even so there have been quite a few Fine performances turned in this year and i am looking Forward to some exciting Competition in the qualifying meets and in the Central european championships. I wish the same thing every year about this time that Dodds would see fit to have Europe wide championships again so that everybody could com Pete in a real championship. There arc some athletes in Italy Spain Turkey and England who have posted Fine Marks during their seasons and it would be Nice to see How they would do against their Peers in Ger Many and the bin nor. But wishing does t make it so. Dodds Germany boys and girls summer basketball clinics have been scheduled at the Wiesbaden Middle school gymnasium from june 17 to june 24. The boys session runs june 17-20, the girls june 21 24. Each Dodds Germany High school is authorized to Send four boys and four girls to the clinic. The objectives of the clinic arc to update knowl Edge of new skills strategies tactics and techniques of basketball. Two stateside coaches have been contacted and Leblanc expects to have verification from them by Early next week. The clinics Are for players who will be returning to Dodds Germany schools next year. The players must have been recommended by the school s athletic director or basketball coach. Players must be will ing to pay their own transportation to and from the clinic As Well As for All meals. Leblanc said packets have been sent to All High schools in Germany. Any coach or athletic director who has not received the packet should Call Leblanc at ets 339-3096 As soon As possible. The rub of the Green it appears might decide the winners of the Dodds Germany All sports trophies for the boys in school year 1988-89. Ramstein and Heidelberg Are waging a torrid Bat the for aaa laurels a Furnberg leads in the a reckoning and Berlin and Augsburg arc dominating the a Central and a South reckoning. All garnered Points on the links last fall. In aaa figuring Ramstein holds a 540-530 Lead Over Heidelberg and Wiesbaden is a Distant third with 400 Points. Heidelberg got 100 Points for teeing it up and Ramstein got 90. Wiesbaden got nothing for Golf and its chances for the trophy arc practically nil. Competing in Golf has had a greater effect for Nornberg and Berlin. Augsburg and Vilsick have benefited too. Numberg got 75 Points for Golf and led Mannheim 495-420, exactly the eagles advantage Over the Bison. Berlin took 560 Points into Spring sports. 100 from Golf. Giessen which got nothing in Golf is second in a cd neral reckoning with 420. Augsburg also got 100 Points for Golf for a grand total of 530. Vilsick hit the links too and picked up 90 a South Points to stay within striking distance of the apaches with 485. Girls participation in Golf was at an ebb. So the effect on the All sports trophy reckoning was t that great. Niernberg had three players and got 75 Points which was Good enough to give the eagles a 40-Point Lead Over Golf less Mannheim in a. Heidelberg leads Wiesbaden 365-330 in aaa Gic Ssan is 20 Points ahead of Berlin in a Central and Munich and Vilseck went into Spring sports lied at 350 in a South. Augsburg which got 25 Points for Golf trails the leaders by Only 5 Points.
