Voters in Dubuque county the largest of the three counties approved the proposal by a 2-1 margin. With about 25 percent of voters going to the polls. 7,793, or 66 percent voted yes and 3.913, or 33 percent disapproved. The outcome in Dubuque county was expected but voting in Allama Kec county in extreme Northeast Iowa was surprising because there was Little organized opposition to the referendum. With 23 percent of eligible voters going to the polls 1,099 rejected the measure and Only 645 voted for it. In Clayton county with about 20 percent of voters going to the polls the measure narrowly passed by i.i22 to 1,060. Six other Mississippi River counties in Iowa hold elections on the gambling question later this month. A majority of those going to the polls must approve in order for the countywide  to pass.
