The drag effect of the extraction Chute will in turn pull from the plane the Load to which the Chute is attached. Dillingham said the entire process takes from five to eight seconds. The investigation revealed that the system failed just after the Small Parachute was deployed As the plane was flying about 8 to 10 feet above the drop zone Dillingham said.
