European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - September 04, 1989, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes Page 11 Ann Landers dear Ann Landers remember me i am Jennifer James of Verdon neb. I wrote in 1988 to Tell you that our prize cow had twin heifers and All the neighbors suggested that we name them Ann and Abby. 1 thought maybe you would like to know what happened to them. In september we took Ann to Omaha and sold her to Northern suites beef for $550. She weighed 1,000 pounds. Now she is Ham Burger but before we sold Ann. We bred her and she had a Beautiful calf. We named the calf after your daughter Margo. It will please you to know that Margo is nothing Short of Amaz ing. Usually once a calf is weaned it is put in a pen. After letters writers offer thoughts about child care was ready to be bred. We have never seen a calf mature so rapidly. She is now pregnant and due to deliver in late february. Since Margo s offspring will be your grandchild you might want a photo when the calf makes an appearance. We will be Happy to Send one. Richard and i Send Best wishes and look Forward to the coming blessed event. Dear you for the update. When i received your letter i immediately phoned Margo my daughter not the cow. She and her husband live in new England. My Margo sends Hearty congratulations to her namesake in Nebraska. She also said i m glad it s her and not me that is Margo Howard s youngest child is 22. Dear Ann Landers the recent letter from baffled in Glen View who had been both wife and other woman prompted me to write. My wife and i Are both 33. We have been married 11 years and have two boys 7 and 4.1 do not know anyone my age who has been married As Long As i have and has Only been married once. All our friends and acquaintances have been divorced because of unfaithfulness alcoholism drug abuse Finan Cial problems or interference from family members. Almost All of the marital Breaks Are blamed on the men. I work at a Small private University. Before i go to work in the morning 1 fix the boys breakfast and make their lunches. When i come Home from work i Coo dinner and frequently Wash the dishes. My children realized Only recently that women can Cook. I Bathe the children in the evening get them ready for bed and read them stories. I do laundry clean House and take care of the Lawn. I also fix almost everything that Breaks. My wife works at Home As an artist. She supported our family when i went through graduate school. Those were really Tough limes. 1 could t Nave made it without her. 1 do not need an other woman for those moments when 1 feel younger sexier and More i have never been and will never be unfaithful to my wife. Men who go that route Are immature and always have a Hun dred excuses. They deserve to be tossed out on their Heads. dear Tulsa you be written a barn Burner of a letter that should destroy once and forever the myth that All men married or single fool around. On behalf of All women everywhere 1 Send thanks. Is. Are there any More at Home like you lot angelas Tirol syndicated columnist lenders welcomes your letters. You can mite to i m Cere of the Slid end Stalpes Apo 09211, . Forces As a full time Mother i took great offence at the recent letter about How family child care acc pro viders should t take their charges to the store Bank Etc. And that every moment should be developmental since that s what parents arc paying for. It s obvious this person has no children. I will agree that daily shopping trips would not be to the children Best advantage but 1 will guarantee you that no sane person would drag a group of kids to stand in Long lines unless it was very much needed. It s absurd to expect that a provider never be Al Lowed to have any time to perform necessary chores. Weekends should not be the Only time providers must get supplies for their Job they have lives too. They have no lunch hour on which to run errands. I doubt any provider is doing her major commissary shopping with the kids. Most Likely she is picking up diapers and treats that the parents forgot to provide. Shopping trips also give children a Chance to learn math skills my daughter loves to pay the cashier help pick out food they like and learn that shopping is a part of life. Name withheld Frankfurt West Germany. First let me Tell you about the parents who Don think twice about bringing their kids to the provider s Home on their Day off. If they would keep them Home once in a while we might be Able to do things. Acc encourages us to take kids on Field trips like to the Exchange or a tour of Burger King so the kids can get out. Some parents won t take their own children to the Exchange on weekends because they Are too much they expect us to even on weekends when we have their kids. When do we get a Day off to go to the Bank we have classes that we must continue to take. But when we Tell the parents to please pick up the kids onetime or a Little Early do you think they do it we still have a family to feed before we go to our night classes. Yes this is our business but Only while the parents Are working not while they go shopping or on a Date. We have a life after 5 30 ., just like you do. So please be a Little bit More considerate when you go to the Exchange while the provider has your kids and wonder if she needs to go to the Exchange or commissary too. Whenever we ask you to please be on time or a Little Early Don t get mad because we asked you. Just re member we arc human and have a life too. Name withheld ludwigs Burg West Germany Why does everyone think that a lady or gentleman who happens to have 4-8 children is an acc certified Day care provider do you know How Many Homes in Usa eur arc used for illegal care parents and others who Are concerned about our children should take precautions before leaving their children with an acc provider and never leave them in illegal care. Cd has a list of things to Check if you re not sure Don t be bashful these arc your children. Ask if the care giver is certified and Tell her you would like to Sec her Home and her certificate. Ask where the children play rest cat Etc. Just because you have developmentally appropriate activities us a approved meals and snacks rest and playtime does not actually mean that you have a Good Day care provider and that these arc cd requirements. I would like to suggest you not Only notice the above but Check the mood of the Home. Is it a peaceful Happy clean Home not perfectionist clean or is it a chaotic mass of confusion and tilth Are you comfortable with your provider can you communicate your child care needs with her is she just a very Sweet Nice person if she s not Nice to you Why do you think she will be Nice to your children How docs she respond to your questions at the end of the Day is she interested or docs she just Hussle you and your out of the House docs she offer to help with any problem your child May confront during the Day after the initial adjustment if your child resists going to the provider s Home get the child out immediately about 30 Days is sufficient. Children Are not usually hard to please and they Are very easy to love. Yes providers do a very important Job in our Community and we Are losing Many great providers be cause of unnecessary regulations that have been Bor Dering on harassment depending on the outreach worker you May have. Children Are not Only our future but they bring great Joy and happiness into our lives right now. Linda c. Miller Subach Rosenberg West Germany Well i have finally five minutes to myself so i want to respond to the person who wrote about the acc provid ers. I m one of those acc providers being put Down. I have six children full time at my House. These children come Here As Early As 5 15 . And leave slate As 6 30-7 I also do night care and weekend care. I have two children at Home so they enjoy the other children because they have others to play with but they also have this person complains about us dragging kids around Post doing our errands. While i agree that children should t have to wait in a two mile Long linear the Bank or spend a three hour shopping spree at the commissary i d Tike to remind All that we also have needs. Yes we superhuman also have to buy food and clothing for our does t give us privileges. The commissary and Exchange close at 5 30-6 And one Day a week the extend that to 7 When do you suggest i do my shopping should i Stop watching children As it s suggested remember if i Stop doing this Job. You la have to Stop doing yours. Besides i bet you if the Mother father had to go shopping they would drag Little sue and Little Joe around. " so please Don t look at us in such a negative Way. Most acc providers do a Good Job. We spend an aver age of eight to 10 hours with your children and teach them what moms and dads Don t have time to because of need or Choice to remember that at a rate of $1 to $1.25 per hour you bet they re getting what they pay for and then there is an out of the Ordinary Case when a provider goes shopping or to the Bank every Day then i would t worry about the children being taken out once in a while. Try staying seven Days a week at Home with six children and see what it la do. Norms. Segui Bamberg West Germany. Acc providers should handle personal business on their own time or make other arrangements. If for some reason the need to run errands arises then the trip can be a very educational experience. While standing in line at the Bank a provider can talk to children about Money explaining what a Bank is for and Why we use checks. A trip to the commissar can be tilled with counting games How Many milk learning colors and pointing to different objects. At the Exchange children can share in the responsibility of putting items in the can. The laundromat is a Good time for rest singing songs or Reading a Book. With Little bit of organizing this can All be accomplished. Please give credit to those acc providers who keep the children s Well being a priority on those special withheld Wil Flecken West Germany these european edition col Jeffrey m. Cook.
