Judge sets trial Date for Noriega rules on use of classified material Miami apr a Federal judge on tuesday scheduled the drug trafficking trial of ousted panamanian Leader Manuel Antonio Noriega for january 1991. District judge William Hoeveler a protective order could hinder defense lawyers seeking Access to thousands of documents they say will corroborate claims that for Many years Noriega acted with Cia approval. Hoveler scheduled the trial of Noriega and four co defendants to begin on Jan. 28, 1991, Noriega lawyer Steven Kollin called the Date realistic but said the trial would probably be delayed. The 12-Page order sets comprehensive ground rules defining what May be considered classified National Security information in the Noriega Case under the classified information procedures act of 1980. Noriega a lawyers must obtain court approval before seeing any government documents marked a confidential a a secret a a top secret or a sensitive Compart rented information a the judge wrote. Also restricted is classified information from any Federal Agency that deals with National Security. Information in books newspapers and other publications Are similarly restricted if the published reports include confirmation by someone with Access to Classi fied information and if the Justice department believes it could affect National Security Hoveler ruled.
