The Honor card is the Reward for Good grades said Linda Wakefield a sixth Grade teacher at Augsburg elementary who doddsroundup8 overseas students going to symposium Wiesbaden West Germany a eight students from department of defense dependents schools and other overseas High schools have been chosen to attend the National Junior science and humanities symposium in the United states. The eight students will travel to Huntsville ala., for the four Day symposium May 17-20. More than 120 students attended a european symposium in Munich in March. The top student there Nicholas Morse of Gen. . Arnold High school in Wiesbaden will present his research paper at the National meeting. The seven other finalists travelling to Alabama Are Kirsten Haake Bahrain school Matthias Arnsdorf and Andrew hards Munich european school Karen hat Well and Jennifer Phillips Frankfurt High school and Alison Curry and Crystal Meddor Laken Heath High school. Naomi Marmon and Stacey new land from Lakenheath High school were the winners in the poster category. Finalists were Dana y. A1 Shi Rawi Bahrain Saskia Van Hulton european school Bergen Holland Jessica ecu Oesterberg High school and Ronald Kroll Wood Bridge High school. The students received $100 Cash awards from Phi Delta Kappa. Brian Mleccko from Mannheim High school was presented the faculty award for support of student offering Money for College Wiesbaden West Germany a the european chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity is offering scholarships to graduating seniors. Theta Theta Lamba chapter will provide three scholarships totalling $8,000, with the largest in the amount of $5,000, to 1990 graduates of department of defense dependents schools. Scholarships will be based on academic performance Community participation and financial need said chapter member Melvin Jones. Applicants also will be required to give an Oral presentation. Applications must be submitted by april 15. Scholarship applications Are available from school Counselor or by contacting Jones at psc#2, Box 58, Apo 09220, or by calling civilian 06128-23603. Students must maintain a 3.4 Grade Point average to be eligible for the card. The program is designed to reach Quot borderline students and give them More incentives to raise their Grade Point averages Wakefield said. She thinks More students will be on the Honor Roll when the current semester ends in june. Honor card holders have Access to several Hundred dollars Worth of goods and services. The card can be used for theater tickets Tours pizzas and other activities and services including the free use of a rental car for a weekend. A porsche has become so popular there a a waiting list. Just As with an american express card students present their Honor card at participating merchants to a a pay for goods or services or get a discount. At the Bowling Alley for example they can get one free game each Day for 182 Days. Gene Knudsen the High schools principal said the program is an excellent Way to recognize students for their academic accomplishments. He encouraged other schools to introduce the cards because a a it a so easy to Community morale welfare and recreation activities the Augsburg Exchange and local merchants donate monetary rewards.
